Title: Library Learning Center Assistant K-12
Reports to: LLC Director/ Building Principal
Primary Purpose: The library aide will support students and staff. The primary focus will be to provide access to library materials and facilitate information retrieval.
Certification Or State Paraprofessional Approval
The State of Illinois requires Special Education Aides to have one of the following:
- Letter of paraprofessional approval from the State of Illinois, OR
- Current Illinois Teaching, School Service Personnel, or Administrative Certificate, OR
- Current Illinois Substitute Teaching Certificate, OR
- Current Illinois Provisional Vocational Certificate
Educator License with Stipulations: Endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator (If you do not already hold a Teaching/Substitute License)
$100.00 for the application fee and $30.00 registration fee=Total $130.00 for initial license, $25 registration for renewal. Valid for 6 years for initial. Renewal valid for 5 years.

- A submitted application and application fee in the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) (www.isbe.net/elis); and
- Applicants can submit documents (High School Diploma, Transcripts and or Score Report) to the DuPage Regional Office of Education to be scanned into their file. Transcripts received that are not in a sealed envelope from the university or not sent directly from the university will be considered unofficial and cannot be used for evaluation purposes.
Educator License With Stipulations Requirements
- At least 19 years of age
- One of the following:
- Associate’s degree or higher
- 60 semester hours of coursework
- High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro

- Applied Mathematics/Applied Math (score of 4)

Duties/Responsibilities
- Oversees circulation of all library materials, securing items for staff, students, and other district LLCs.
- Assists in maintenance of collection: mending, cleaning, inventory, packing, withdrawing, processing, and importing books.
- Helps students and staff locate materials.
- Assists with research, reference, and word processing using technology.
- Supports instruction of students individually, in small groups, or classes.
- Performs clerical tasks: typing, processing, record maintenance, reports, overdue notices, holds, reserves, and interlibrary loans.
- Supervises and trains volunteers helping in the LLC.
- Assists with operation and delivery of AV equipment and materials.
- Supports management of reading incentive programs, book fairs, and special events.
