Position Details:

• Position: Assistant Audio Engineer
• Reports to: Production Manager
• Status: Part Time - Non-Exempt
• Salary Range: $18 per hour
• Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the ACOA performance schedule. Hours may vary.

Role Summary:

The Academy Center of the Arts (ACOA) Head Audio Engineer (HAE) provides sound support and oversight across all performance venues on the ACOA campus, including the Historic Academy Theatre (800 capacity), the Joy and Lynch Christian Warehouse Theatre (300-600 capacity), and the Music Hall at 722 Commerce Street (120 capacity). The HAE is responsible for technical execution, planning, equipment rental, and overall sound support, ensuring a safe work environment at all times. This position reports directly to the Production Manager (PM).

Responsibilities:

1. Manage the use and maintenance of sound equipment for all venues in conjunction with the HAE team.
2. Assist the HAE in running all sound needs for performances as requested.
3. Serve as the primary contact for the Music Hall venue regarding production needs and communicate with performers ahead of scheduled performances.
4. Operate as a regular production staff member for Music Hall events, based on availability.
5. Read and understand technical riders for touring performers.
6. Oversee production overhire as needed.
7. Act as liaison to renters and outside performers regarding sound needs.
8. Train overhire and third-party users on the use of internal sound equipment.
9. Complete event reports after each performance/event.
10. Attend production and department meetings as needed.
11. Engage hands-on in production work as required.
12. Maintain proficiency in technical audio skills and mixing.
13. Experience with projection and video design preferred.
14. Knowledge of Crestron systems for video networking is a plus.
15. Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
16. Proficient with computer technology.
17. Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
18. Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability.
19. Resourceful in utilizing and maximizing resources.
20. Collaborative and creative problem-solving skills.
21. Physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
22. Willingness to work long shifts as needed for performances.

Minimum Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher, preferably in an associated field.
• Or relevant work experience in lighting design, ideally 1-3 years.
