This position is remote with some preference to fill in the Lexington, KY or surrounding area.
JOB SUMMARY
The Communication and Membership Specialist supports communication, marketing, and membership services for the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA), an affiliate organization of The Council of State Governments (CSG). The specialist serves as the primary member service contact and is responsible for the strategic direction and management of membership development, retention, and recruitment as well as programs, practices, and processes that generate income from membership dues; has responsibility for implementing the membership communication strategies through the dissemination of association information with a heavy focus on social media presence and engagement; and collaborates with other staff and stakeholders to promote APPA's resources, events, programs, and policy work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with APPA staff to develop, vet, and distribute print and electronic (web, email, photo, video) communication content to promote and raise awareness of association events, member resources, and engagement opportunities.
- Executes membership and external stakeholder outreach efforts, campaigns, and communications plan/strategy and serve as APPA's general point of contact.
- Builds and maintains relationships with members, and serves as primary contact for member service matters, requests for information, and agreement enforcement.
- Creates and disperses engaging social content in post, story, and short-form video formats.
- Enhances and maintains association social media platforms - writes and posts relevant content; schedules messaging; tracks metrics and shares information of interest.
- Assists with posting, updating, and maintaining APPA website content.
- Manages APPA's social communities.
- Assists in implementing the annual marketing plan.
- Works with Director of Marketing and Communication to conduct new member outreach, recruitment, and onboarding; answers membership inquiries; assists with ensuring membership database is current.
- Coordinates Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week.
- Exemplifies best practices in the areas of membership services and marketing.
- Assists with coordination and promotion of APPA activities such as conferences, webinars, and virtual meetings.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Comfortable balancing and successfully completing multiple projects with overlapping time constraints and deadlines.
- Proven "people person" with the gift of gab; the ideal candidate understands what new business development is and does - and exemplifies it in every communication.
- Self-starter who is also a team player; small teams require versatility by everyone.
- Adept knowledge of Microsoft suite - including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with social media best practices.
- Excellent written, verbal, digital and website communication skills.
- Experience creating social media and simple marketing graphics required.
- Strong interpersonal skills including self-awareness, sensitivity and valuing others.
- Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing CSG duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Three years proven experience in any of the following areas: marketing, relationship development, direct sales, planning, and public speaking.
- Membership Marketing or Association experience.
- Experience utilizing social media, web marketing and/or online communities to engage an audience.
COMPENSATION
CSG believes that pay equity and pay transparency advance workplace fairness. Compensation will be equitable and based on experience. The salary range for this position, based in Lexington, KY is $51,000 to $57,000. This salary range is subject to change based on work location and market conditions.
