The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (LPA) is one of the top arts archives in the world. Located in New York’s iconic performing arts campus, LPA serves as a vital resource for artists, writers, and students, providing access to unique collections essential for scholarly and creative work.
The Library Technical Assistant II supports public service for theater, dance, music, recorded sound, and reserve film media collections. They assist with paper-based materials, microfilm, audio, and moving images, and participate in projects around accessing these materials.
Responsibilities
- Provides public service support, assisting patrons with research materials and special collections.
- Fulfills reader requests, maintains inventory control of research and media materials, including retrieval, delivery, reshelving, and circulation using the ILS and inventory systems.
- Assists in planning and implementing collection maintenance projects.
- Instructs patrons on using the internet, computer applications, and other library services.
- Fulfills electronic document delivery requests.
- Ensures patron compliance with library policies and procedures.
- Operates playback consoles, devices, and supporting equipment.
- Collaborates across departments and participates in cross-training as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Education and Certifications
- High School Diploma
Experience
- Experience working with the public in high-pressure environments.

Work environment includes research library settings. Physical duties involve moving up to 15 pounds and remaining stationary for periods.
Schedule: 35 hours/week, including evenings and Saturdays.
