Job Title: Part Time Library Paraprofessional

Reports To: Librarian/Administrator

Supervises: Not applicable

Type of Position: Non-exempt, 180 day contract, Up to 24 hours weekly

Job Goal

Assisting the school librarian in the library's operation, assisting teachers and students in the full use of library services.

Position Description/Job Summary

This position utilizes a combination of technological, technical, organizational, instructional, and secretarial skills necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the secondary school library. Assists the secondary librarian with library functions, including performing routine clerical duties, problem-solving technology issues, locating and checking out materials, organizing library materials, assisting with instructional lessons with students, and assisting other staff in performing similar or related duties. Tasks performed are specific and recurring. This position performs work independently under the supervision of the school librarian.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Staffs circulation desk; Receives telephone calls and welcomes walk-in patrons; Assists students and teachers in locating materials
• Operates computerized system for circulating media center materials;
• Circulates media center equipment and materials; operates media center equipment;
• Shelves returned books; replaces incorrectly shelved books
• Assists in processing new and discarded library materials
• Assists with inventory of all media center materials;
• Assists librarian in repairing books
• Generates overdue and other computerized reports;
• Assists in the preparation and implementation of special programs, inventory, and library lessons
• Prepares correspondence, reports, schedules, newsletters, purchase orders, files, and other materials as requested
• Assists the Librarian with monitoring the patrons of the library and their behavior in the library
• Assists in maintaining an attractive and organized learning environment
• Assists with library displays;
• Organizes and maintains Makerspace materials and passive program supplies
• Performs other duties as assigned
