Position Overview
Camouflaj, the award-winning team behind BATMAN: ARKHAM SHADOW, IRON MAN VR, and RÉPUBLIQUE, is seeking an experienced Technical Animator to join our team of talented developers. Our goal is to create high-quality, meaningful VR games in an open, honest, and respectful environment.
As a Technical Animator, you will work closely with animators, artists, designers, engineers, and producers to develop and maintain performant real-time animations and characters within Maya and Unity. Your responsibilities include creating rigs, integrating assets into Unity, and developing tools and pipelines to facilitate workflows.
Responsibilities
- Develop content creation pipelines and tools for animation and character art teams.
- Create rigs for characters and props.
- Assist in integrating assets from Maya to Unity and troubleshoot issues.
- Guide animation and character art teams on best practices for optimized in-game assets.
- Collaborate with art teams to ensure designs are compatible with animations.
- Work with designers and engineers to develop animation features.
- Coordinate with producers on planning and scheduling.
- Mentor and review code for other technical animators.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in animation and rigging technology.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Technical Animator or Technical Artist.
- Experience maintaining and developing existing tools and codebases.
- Proficiency in creating tools for Maya and Motion Builder using Python.
- Expertise in creating body and face rigs, skinning in Maya, and proprietary tools.
- Knowledge of model topology and directing character artists.
- Experience with animation controllers and state machines (e.g., Mecanim).
- Experience working in Unity with C# or similar.
- Strong 3D math skills, including linear algebra and matrices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in VR development.
- Familiarity with Maya C++ API and MotionBuilder.
- Knowledge of FACS-based rigs and facial tracking.
- Experience with motion capture workflows.
