Overview
1906 Group, a privately held asset creation company in the real estate, construction, and finance industry, seeks our sixth Photographer-in-Residence. The 1906 Group Photographer-in-Residence will spend 12-18 months (to be mutually determined) visiting our jobsites, offices, and manufacturing facilities across the United States, capturing the “Art of Building.” We are particularly interested in the teams of men and women who build our projects. As both individuals and in groups, these men and women are responsible for the heroic efforts required to build our nation’s infrastructure. Their work deserves to be documented. The Photographer-in-Residence’s mission is to think creatively of our jobsites as a “blank canvas” and to provide a novel representation of our workforce, industry, and product.
As an employee, the Photographer-in-Residence will receive an annual salary of ~ $80K+, competitive benefits, and travel/temporary housing expense reimbursement. At the conclusion of the artist’s employment, 1906 Group will host a show to exhibit the artist’s work. The images you take of our projects, jobsites, offices, employees, partners, clients, subcontractors, and vendors while employed at Clark Construction belong to us and may only be used with our permission, as all your work constitutes works-made-for-hire.
Minimum Requirements: The recipient of the 1906 Group Photographer-in-Residence must prove eligibility to legally work in the United States as a W2 employee, have completed an undergraduate and/or master’s degree, and be comfortable spending time on active construction jobsites. Most importantly, the selected candidate must share our passion for the built environment and the men and women who make it happen. We are particularly interested in candidates with color photography experience, but welcome photographers with skills in black and white and who are comfortable also working in color.
Selection Process:
- Interested applicants must submit a one-page Statement of Interest, a portfolio of ~ 20 images, a resume and two professional references.
- It would be helpful for the portfolio to demonstrate a connection to our desired subject, including images of people at work or in action, industrial spaces, urban environments, buildings, or similar settings.
- In addition, interviews will be required of all finalists.
Submission Deadline: 2 June 2025.
