Description
Summary:
Create and develop new and unique curriculums and instruct students ranging from ages two to adult in specialty art programs in various mediums. Encourage creative expression in multiple artistic genres that are consistent with past and modern trends. Implement and enforce an overall understanding and appreciation for students to be explorative in the field of art.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans within program guidelines.
- Explain and demonstrate techniques and methods of the specialty area.
- Teach important and skills in art, including drawing, painting, sculpting, textile, lettering, art history and other areas as needed.
- Assist students in the development of their skills pertaining to their specialty area of practice. Maintain a safe, clean and organized classroom environment.
- Evaluate each students performance and growth.
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Be willing to adapt curriculum material to meet the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
- Create and explore special avenues to display students work for the community.
- Communicate with direct supervisor any books, instructional materials, tools and aids needed to maintain a successful learning environment. Keep accurate inventory record.
- Provide positive and professional communication with customers.
- Collect and maintain emergency forms and dispense District-approved required medication.
- Take attendance and maintain sign in sheets.
- Follow emergency procedures as outlined in the facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Follow and implement PDHP behavior management policies.
- Implement and document behavior management plans within Park District guidelines.
- Provide direction to Teachers Aide and/or North Suburban Special Recreation Aide.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Supervises students enrolled in art courses.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
BA or BFA in an Arts discipline is strongly preferred, however not required; or associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience as an art instructor with a demonstrated excellence in a variety of genres of art is required. Strong working knowledge of curriculum building, implementation of artistic concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching art at the beginner and advanced levels. Stellar classroom management and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
