A job with Student Life Marketing provides students the opportunity to work in an agency-like atmosphere where creative problem-solving and collaboration with colleagues lead to the development of effective strategies to build awareness, engagement, and action from target audiences. All Student Life Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives to promote the Office of Student Life and its 30+ departments.
Job Summary
The Social Media Content Creator plays a key role in strategizing, creating, and assessing social media content for the Office of Student Life and its various departments. This role requires innovative thinking, creative content development, and expertise in managing social media accounts. The position will focus on producing engaging content, including photo posts, Reels, Stories, and trending videos, for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vertical video production (Instagram Reels, TikTok) and a passion for crafting content that resonates with the IU community.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Develops innovative and creative social media content in line with the Office of Student Life's branding efforts (i.e., original text, photos, videos, and news).
- Strategizes, creates, and posts content on social media accounts to engage with the IU community regarding services, promotions, events, and other offerings.
- Creates vertical videos/Reels to promote the Office of Student Life and its departments.
- Oversees and maintains social media accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
- Maintains and consults the Communications Calendar for social media content, working with partners and planning promotions.
- Produces monthly and quarterly social media analytics reports to assess content performance and inform future strategies.
- Collaborates with the marketing team, campus partners, and clients to implement engaging social media strategies.
- Writes and edits copy for summer and fall campaigns, including ad copy and print materials.
- Photographs events and locations to enhance content and support marketing initiatives.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
- Pursuit of a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media Advertising, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field
Required
- Extensive experience with social media platforms and strategies for audience engagement
- Experience filming and editing vertical videos/Reels, including framing, sound, text integration, and editing techniques
- Experience in photography, with knowledge of basic photography principles
- Portfolio of work showcasing a range of creative projects
Experience managing social media accounts (beyond personal accounts)
SKILLS
Required
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and how to strategically engage audiences
- Proficiency in video editing software such as CapCut, Premiere Pro, Canva, Adobe Express, and Adobe Photoshop
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is based in person on the Indiana University Bloomington campus.
Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour
Work Hours
Desired Start Date: 05/12/2025 - 08/22/2025
Weekly Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours per week.
Requires flexibility for evening and weekend events while maintaining some office hours.
The student in this role may have the opportunity to continue working into the 2025-26 academic year.
