The Opportunity
The Associate Designer is an early career designer who works directly with Design colleagues to contribute to the efforts of the MD Design team and supports existing accounts and business development opportunities. The Associate Designer is developing a robust understanding of WestRock’s business objectives, technical processes, and manufacturing. They apply these learnings into their design process. They work independently, stay organized, communicate well, demonstrate excellent time management, and deliver consistently high-quality output. This is typically a recent graduate from a design-related field with 0-3 years of post-graduate work experience.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock

- Supports team projects, consistently contributing to the body of creative and high-quality design comprising the Platform, and producing compelling presentation collateral and imagery to effectively communicate the design intent and value proposition.
- Achieves the highest level of customer satisfaction through timely and independent execution and delivery of prototypes, white samples, graphic mock-ups, and other job-related tasks.
- Demonstrates excellent planning and follow-through and clear communication to reliably deliver high-quality output and achieve high customer satisfaction and build trust with Account teams and customer stakeholders.
- Actively participates in ideation to support customer or platform innovation projects, generating new ideas and intellectual property.
- Contributes to design requests under the supervision of project leads.
- Creates creative and compelling visuals, appropriately leveraging Brand Guide, templates, and other tools.
- Proactively seeks to develop and gain experience across the job titles and build a robust network across WestRock.
- Demonstrates an Opportunity Mindset, seizing opportunities to learn from senior designers and leaders and using their own experiences to recommend and seek new opportunities for the business and for team development.
- Supports the execution of graphic visuals, packaging layouts, mockups, and marketing collateral with direction from teammates and Design Manager.
- Understands basic print processes and mock-up production workflow, gaining exposure to production file setup and how to translate that knowledge into execution.
- Can translate, recreate, and modify customer graphics onto creative packaging layouts with guidance from more senior colleagues.
- Has an understanding of WestRock Brand Standards and applies WestRock branding in a manner that adheres to our corporate guidelines.
What You Need To Succeed
- Basic proficiency of Adobe Suite – Especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Basic proficiency of Microsoft Office products – Especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to understand 3D thinking.
- Basic proficiency of 3D software.
- Basic understanding of printing processes and limitations.
- Proficient in operation of equipment including Cad Tables and Large format printers.
- Can effectively execute display art, instruction sheets, 3D renderings, mockups, etc.

The salary range for this position is $39,750.00 - $66,250.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work.
