Under the direction of the Principal, performs a variety of support functions related to collection, circulation, and inventory of the library; implements age-appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; instructs students on the use of library and learning resources; provides students with required textbooks and workbooks; performs duties in acquiring assigned materials and supplemental instructional resources needed.
As a substitute employee, hours are not guaranteed (substitutes can work as little or as much as desired); position is not benefits eligible.
ALL OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT ARE CONTINGENT ON PRE-EMPLOYMENT CLEARANCES FOR: Department of Justice (CA) Fingerprints; Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprints; Tuberculosis (TB). NOTE: The District pays for Pre-Employment clearances for Substitute Employees.

Additional Responsibilities
- Administers reading incentives and promotes library use according to established procedures.
- Implements age-appropriate programs and reads selections aloud to students and classes as assigned.
- Communicates with students, personnel, parents, administrators, and outside organizations to exchange information, coordinate activities, and resolve issues; maintains library webpages as assigned.
- Controls circulation of district-owned textbooks and materials; applies bar codes, checks in/out, stores, orders additional materials, and prepares for audits per guidelines.
- Develops and maintains library resources, creates orders, supports shelf life, repairs, and discards materials as needed.
- Inputs data into computer systems, maintains records, provides documentation, and ensures data accuracy.
- Issues overdue notices, collects funds for lost/damaged materials, and follows up for reimbursements.
- Maintains library inventory, monitors textbook and workbook levels, and ensures an organized environment.
- Shelves books, maintains signage, prepares displays, and arranges furniture; schedules library visits.
- Meets with teachers, site managers, and groups within the library setting.
- Monitors student behavior and oversees student workers.
- Operates office and library equipment; reports service needs.
- Performs circulation activities, processes inter-library loan requests, and assists students with research and catalog use.
- Submits instructional materials needs based on data and oversees online catalog training and reservations.
- Participates in meetings, trainings, and performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and clerical experience, preferably in a school or public library.
Knowledge and Skills
- Library operations, practices, and terminology.
- Computer operation, data entry, and retrieval.
- Cataloging, classification, and record-keeping.
- Age-appropriate literature and inventory procedures.
- English language skills, oral and written communication, interpersonal skills.
- Office practices, basic math, and technology operation.
Abilities
- Perform technical library duties, assist with materials, and maintain order.
- Help students and teachers locate and use resources.
- Maintain an organized environment and monitor student behavior.
- Operate computers and software, maintain records, and communicate effectively.
