Position Summary
The Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina invites highly qualified applicants for a tenure-track Lab Instructor position in Sound Design and Audio Production. This position focuses on teaching and will commence July 1, 2025, or as soon as possible. We seek an imaginative and innovative candidate who will provide creative educational leadership to enhance and expand the existing curricula through the integration of sound design, with a focus on audio engineering, audio production, and related areas.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team at the intersections of Creative Technologies, Design, Fine Arts, Media, Computer Science, and Engineering. They will bring technical expertise and critical thinking in sound design and audio production to build upon the Department of Creative Technologies & Design's strengths as new programs grow. Teaching will include studio, lab-based, lecture formats, as well as online and mixed modalities at the undergraduate level. Previous studio/lab-based teaching experience in sound design, audio production, and creative technologies is required. The candidate will contribute to developing new courses, revising existing ones, and building resources to support excellence in teaching and practice.
Service to the department, faculty, and university-wide committees is expected. We encourage applications from individuals who may not meet all qualifications but challenge traditional pathways, especially those with experience in facilitating equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching, artistic praxis, or community work. This position aligns with the University of Regina’s Strategic Plan “All Our Relations” (2020-2025) and supports interdisciplinary engagement, experiential learning, and digital research themes.
Candidate Profile
We seek candidates with expertise in Sound Design and Audio Production, experience working with various musical styles, including contemporary global, Black, and Indigenous expressions. Candidates should hold an MA, MMus, MFA, or PhD in Sound Design, Audio Production, or a related field. Consideration will also be given to applicants with a BFA, BMus, BA, plus substantial industry experience.
Previous university-level studio/lab teaching in Sound Design, Audio Production, or Creative Technologies is required. Additional professional or industry experience in design or creative industries is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate significant creative output and the ability to connect theory to practice. Industry experience is an asset.
