Job Summary
The Director of Development & Communication will lead the growing organization’s fundraising and communication activities to advance equitable access to public transportation in Marion County. This leader will create and execute the fundraising and communication plans. This individual will supervise the Development Manager, be responsible for ensuring the organization achieves its fundraising goals and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.
Responsibilities Leadership & Administration
Supervise and lead a team of 1 employee and 2 contractors, providing direction, guidance, and support to meet departmental goals and objectives. Set clear goals and performance expectations for team members aligned with departmental and organizational objectives. Utilize Raiser’s Edge database to track all donor and solicitation activities Prepare reports on team performance, productivity, and other key metrics as required by executive leadership. Staff liaison for Board Fundraising Committee Development:
Create and execute a comprehensive Fundraising Plan to meet the organization's annual contributed revenue goal. Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, such as the Golf Outing, a new event in 2025 and small donor events. Key liaison with the grants contractor and write grant applications and reports as needed. Proactively build relationships in the community and represent the Foundation at business networking events. Update monthly fundraising reports and provide metrics for Board reports. Communications:
Develop a Marketing & Communications Plan aligned with Fundraising Plan and organizational goals. Key liaison with the communications contractor. Responsible for key organizational communication pieces including Annual Report, press releases, direct mail, and eNewsletters. Increase community awareness about barriers experienced by riders and the importance of transit.
Skills and Qualifications
Resilience and Flexibility: Proven capacity to quickly adjust to changing circumstances, priorities, and challenges, while maintaining productivity and delivering quality results under pressure. Strong strategic thinking, communication, and leadership skills. Relationship-building skills, particularly with high-capacity donors and community partners. Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and projects effectively Ability to represent the Foundation in a professional yet approachable manner in the community and with donors Proficiency with Microsoft Office including the ability to perform a mail merge. Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, and phones. Ability to recognize sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE The Director of Development and Communications will be a self-motivated and performance-driven individual. An ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualities and attributes:
Bachelor's degree with preference for advanced coursework in nonprofit management At least eight years’ fundraising experience in a professional setting including special events and institutional giving At least two years supervisory experience Demonstrated successful track record in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts Comfort using Raiser’s Edge or other donor management CRMs Comfort using Asana or other project management applications Knowledge of the Indianapolis philanthropic community is a plus
SALARY AND BENEFITS

By working toward our vision, the IndyGo Foundation aims to increase funding for public transit in Marion County and increase IndyGo ridership.
The Foundation’s annual budget has grown to $2M in five years. Our six employees are employed by IndyGo Foundation with access to health benefits through IndyGo. IndyGo Foundation’s office is located in Broadripple. While there is flexibility with hours worked, employees are expected to be in the office 60% of the week.
