Job Summary

The Social Media Coordinator is a key communicator for the Office of Student Life and its many departments (Indiana Memorial Union, Student Health Center, Residence Life, and 20+ more), using relevant and intentional graphics, copy, videos, photos, and links via social media platforms to share events, promotions, and services that help tell the story and promote the services of, and events within, the Office of Student Life.

Department Specific ResponsibilitiesMay be other opportunities for original content for all areas within Student Life and for collaboration and amplification of those departments within Student Life that have their own social media accounts.Social Media Content

Develops innovative and creative media content in line with the Office of Student Life's branding efforts (i.e. original text, photos, videos, and news).Uses creativity and artistic techniques to tell a story or provide information in a visual form.Strategizes, monitors, and posts on social media accounts to engage with the IU community regarding the services, promotions, events, and other offerings by using a Content Matrix.Uses recording and editing skills to create vertical videos/Reels to promote various events, initiatives, programs, .and facilities.Oversees and maintains the accounts on, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms.Creates, maintains, and consults the Communications Calendars for social media content, sharing stories with partners, and planning other promotions.Creates monthly and quarterly social media analytics reports to determine the effectiveness and the direction of future strategies.Works collaboratively with team members, colleagues, and campus partners to implement the most effective and engaging strategies.Participates in various meetings, workshops, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary.Collects data and metrics to create monthly and quarterly reports to help determine future social media strategies.

Other Communications duties as needed.

Strategizes various communications for campaigns.Writes and edits copy for ad campaigns and print pieces.Photographs of events and locations.

Understanding and extensive experience with various social media accounts, how they are best utilized, and how to strategically engage via these platformsFamiliar with social media trends; knowing when to experiment with new tactics and when not toFamiliarity with taking quality photographs and photography principlesExperience taking pictures and filming/editing videos/Reels (framing, editing, use of sound and text, etc.)Portfolio of work with a wide range of creative projectsPassion for using social media platformsFamiliarity using Microsoft Office programsFine attention to detailProfessionalism, dependability, and respect for othersExceptional decision-making skills and autonomyExceptional written and communication skillsPerforms well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphereStrong sense of curiosity and creativityMotivated individual: strives for ongoing improvement and is passionate about learningAble to receive constructive criticism to improve your skillsetPreferred

Pursuit of a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.Experience managing social media accounts that were not simply personal accountsExperience taking high quality picturesProficiency in CapCut, Premiere Pro, Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Photoshop, or similar programs for video editingUnderstanding of effective marketing tacticsPersonable, comfortable talking to othersWorking Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
