Graphic Designer/Prepress Technician - Full Time (Allegra Marketing Print Mail of Fairfax)
Looking for professional, energetic, career minded Graphic Designer/Prepress person to grow with company, that can multi-task and has the initiative to take responsibility and learn!
Purpose of Position: The Graphic Designer/Prepress Technician is responsible for producing all prepress graphics, design and layout work in compliance with job specifications. This person must schedule workloads to meet customer time requirements. They will perform daily and weekly file storage and system maintenance on equipment to ensure optimum productivity. They will troubleshoot their system as necessary. This person is a vital part of the overall customer service provided and will assist the inside and outside sales staff to educate clients on services available.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in graphic design.
2. Minimum of 1 year of prepress print production and typesetting experience in a print shop environment preferred.
3. Team player with good communication skills.
4. Minimum of 2 years education in graphic design and advertising.
5. Experience with Sign Estimating, Design/Layout, Production and Install a Plus!
6. Some experience with illustration for apparel a plus.
7. Comprehensive background, understanding, and experience and Macintosh or PC and software applications, such as: Microsoft Office, InDesign, Acrobat, Microsoft Publisher, Illustrator, Freehand or Corel Draw, PowerPoint, Photoshop, PageMaker.
8. Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plug-ins.
9. Knowledge of utility programs such as file compression, disk repair, print spoolers, PC to Mac, and Mac to PC conversion processes.
10. Ability to properly format print ready files, send and operate digital equipment; high-speed black and white, color digital copiers, and Xante digital envelope press.
11. Experience in job stripping, paste-up and book pagination.
12. Ability to move freely throughout the building to gather information, materials and authorizations.
13. Meet or exceed minimum test results as specified by hiring manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
A. Customer Service:
1. Assist with selling graphic design services to customers: Identify accounts/customers to make aware of/introduce our capabilities and vision for graphic services area. Work with existing and potential customers to provide concept, design and create multiple marketing campaigns; logos and rebranding improvements, design and revisions to business forms and marketing materials (both internal/company and external customers), etc.
2. Assist sales associates/customer service representatives on educating clients on methods of accepting digital files.
3. Educate customers on capabilities and proper file construction.
4. Work with service bureaus and other outside suppliers as necessary to fill customer orders. Setup graphics/layouts and submit orders to suppliers/vendors for completion of outside services.
5. Ability to learn and understand customer estimating using POS System and sourcing materials or brokers.
B. Operations and Maintenance of Equipment:
1. Operate prepress equipment -- Macintosh or Windows. Includes CPU, monitor, removable media/external hard drive, modems, etc.
2. Operate scanner.
3. Operate laser printer and other output devices such as the large format printers – hands-on training will be provided.
4. Clean and maintain all equipment.
5. Training/learning the digital machines. (Submitting files to digital machines, understanding the process and overseeing final production of jobs/the final product).
6. Complete internal online training programs and gain certifications.
7. Learn variable data and implement into mailing pieces.
8. Learn online direct ordering program for creation of customer templates, maintain site, implement and manage.
C. Operation of Software:
1. Use of Macintosh or Windows operating system.
2. Use of PageMaker, InDesign, Acrobat, Microsoft Office; Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint.
3. Use of Illustrator, Freehand or Corel Draw.
4. Use of Adobe PhotoShop or other image manipulation software.
5. Use of word processing and other software; Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
6. Use of internal POS software.
7. Knowledge of platform and file conversion processes.
8. Knowledge of utility programs such as file compression, disk repair, print spoolers, etc.
9. Use of customer online direct ordering software package.
D. Prepress Supply Inventory:
1. Maintain Macintosh/Windows, software and printer supplies.
2. Alert Manager of items needed.
E. End of Day Procedures:
1. Dispose of waste materials in compliance with EPA standards.
2. Prioritize and schedule next day's work.
3. Daily recording of production -- use of Prepress Production Log and POS software/procedures.
F. General:
1. Monitor quality on all prepress work.
2. Maintain clean and organized graphics area.
3. Participate in daily production meetings.
4. Abide by center business processes and procedures.
5. Abide by center policies/procedures as outlined in the employee manual.
G. Secondary Responsibilities:
1. Assist on Front Counter.
2. Assist with answering phone and routing calls.
3. Assist with Bindery as needed.
Available for a 35 hr to 40 hr work week. Must live within 15 miles of our location. No relocation expenses offered.
Position is an onsite position Monday through Friday from 8:00am or 9am - 5pm or 5:30pm
