72andSunny Wants You to ‘Discover Your Power’ with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Earlier this month, Ant Farm released a gameplay trailer for the new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Now, with less than a week until the game’s release, 72andSunny have unveiled their live action trailer, starring Taylor Kitsch, entitled “Discover Your Power.”

The 90-second spot, directed by Peter Berg, offers a slight tweak on the usual live action gaming trailer, putting the viewer in the first-person perspective as they accompany Kitsch through a series of intense battles with enemies that display how the futuristic setting changes the nature of the game. It’s a welcome change of pace, and makes a lot of sense for a first-person shooter, although it can be a little bit of a dizzying experience. Read more

David&Goliath Brings Back the Hamsters for Kia

To help launch Kia’s first electric vehicle, the Soul EV, the brand’s agency of record, David&Goliath is bringing back the Kia hamsters.

In the spot, entitled “Fully Charged,” several hamsters work in a high tech lab on the new Soul EV, and also turn a regular-sized hamster into a Kia hamster sized lady hamster, clad in a skin-tight leather outfit, which stirs their hamster loins. So the hamster scientist dudes run off to the pet store to get some more hamsters and turn up the party (which concludes with hamster dancing, of course).

The 60-second spot is set to the (horrible) unreleased Maroon 5 single “Animals” and will debut this Sunday during the MTV Video Music Awards. On September 2nd, a 30-second version of the spot will begin running on all major networks and cable, as well as YouTube, Facebook and Kia.com. The campaign will also include digital, OOH, POS, promotional, experiential and social elements. We’ve included the extended version of the spot above. People disturbed by the sexualization of small rodents should avoid watching. Fans of hamster dancing, on the other hand, can head here to learn the moves from the spot. Read more

The Richards Group, MPC’s ‘Godzilla’ FIAT Spot Goes Viral

The Richards Group teamed up with production house MPC Creative for a new FIAT campaign featuring the King of Monsters, Godzilla.

The 45-second spot utilizes the film asset of the CG Godzilla crafted by MPC Film Warner Bros. for the Godzilla reboot (which couldn’t possibly be worse than the last attempt at rebooting the franchise) hitting theaters today, with CG of Godzilla crafted by MPC Film. In the spot, Godzilla eyes a FIAT, shoves it in his mouth and then spits it out, which prompts the “It’s a lot bigger than you think” tagline. The spot has proven a huge success, racking up over 5 million views since its debut less than 2 weeks ago. That’s not too surprising, as it’s a pretty fun tie-in that manages to balance promoting Godzilla and FIAT pretty well. Stay tuned for credits after the jump. Read more

Sony Shows Off New 4K Ultra HD TV

To be fully experienced, this spot has to be watched at your nearest Sony Store or Magnolia Home Theater at Best Buy. That’s because it’s made specially for the 4K Ultra HD TV it advertises, which raises definition to four times that of a standard HD TV.

The ad still looks pretty on YouTube, with its New Zealand ocean setting, bright blue bird, and red-dressed woman. And it doesn’t hurt that filmmaker Garth Davis (a commercial director himself) narrates it all in his soothing Australian accent.

In addition to showcasing new HD technology, the ad features the largest asset ever made for TV: a random looming spaceship, created by VFX company MPC. Pretty sure Sony agreed to it just because they could.

“This is part of our Visionaries campaign for Sony,” 180LA creative director Dave Horton says. “The idea is to bring together two industry leaders to collaborate on a creation that brings Sony’s technology to life.” In this case, Garth Davis worked with Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi). I look forward to seeing who’s next. I watch almost nothing on TV, but this technology is tempting.
