Yolles, Campbell Ewald Part Ways

Well, this is an interesting management shakeup in what’s already turned out to be quite the busy month at Campbell Ewald–sorry, Lowe Campbell Ewald. Less than a year after joining up with Detroit-based LCE as chief marketing officer, Barbara Yolles and said agency have parted ways. No word yet on if there are immediate plans to replace her, but this marks the second notable management shift at LCE following the departure of longtime CEO Bill Ludwig, who of course was succeeded by Jim Palmer earlier this month.

As for Yolles, the now-ex-LCE CMO joined from McCann, where she initially served in the same role of the latter’s Midwest region before moving up to chief growth officer, North America. During her career, she also had two stints on the account side at Doner and also served as EVP/group managing director at KBS+. Update: We’ve been told that there are no immediate plans to replaces Yolles at Campbell Ewald as of now.

Following $500 Million Acquisition, Zipcar Aligns with Campbell-Ewald

Following a string of setbacks pertaining to USPS-related cuts, creative director departures, warts and all, Detroit’s own Campbell-Ewald has some good news to report, mainly that it’s been named brand strategy/creative partner for Zipcar, the car rental brand that was bought up by Avis Budget Group for $500 million at the beginning of this year.

Spending is not being disclosed on the C-E/Zipcar deal, but agency CMO Barbara Yolles sounds excited, saying in a statement, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Zipcar during such an exciting time in the company’s growth. Zipcar is such a hot brand, truly redefining the way people think about mobility. We look forward to making an impact by helping them achieve their global business goals through brand strategy and creative efforts.”

New work from Campbell-Ewald for Zipcar is slated to launch in Spring 2013. From what we’re hearing in the tipstersphere, C-E beat out the likes of Deutsch, CP+B, Digitas, Arnold and Wieden & Kennedy for the biz. The incumbent was Full Contact in Boston.

Update: The Deutsch camp says it was NOT involved. Who else will rise up?

McCann Detroit SVP Splits for Doner

Sources familiar with the matter confirm that Lisa Rios, McCann Detroit SVP, director of strategic planning, has left the agency after seven years for an SVP, strategic planning post at Doner. It looks like the Chrysler retailer/dealer biz is doing some good for the beleaguered Motor City stalwart, which lured Campbell-Ewald’s Craig Conrad away earlier this month. Prior to McCann, Rios held planning/strategy posts at RPA. We’ve been told that Rios’s departure is “not a surprise.” Hmm, where have we heard that before? Anyhow, our sources say that McCann Detroit is doing “fine” with the new leadership including president Joe Garcia and CMO Barbara Yolles and the agency will announce new hires and new work in the coming weeks.
