Martin Agency, Benjamin Moore Make Over Main Streets…with Help from Brad Pitt

“Main Street Matters,” The Martin Agency’s first campaign for Benjamin Moore since winning creative/media duties for the paint brand back in February, celebrates local businesses in the US and Canada. From today until June 30, users can visit paintwhatmatters.com and vote for a town to receive a Benjamin Moore makeover. Painting and renovations will then take place in 20 cities from July until May 2014.

Brad Pitt lends his simpering voiceover (can’t help but think of his Chanel ad) and star power to Benjamin Moore’s video spot, with lines like, “Drug stores that still make milkshakes with real ice cream…matter.” The video–a slideshow of old-timey American storefronts–isn’t exactly scintillating, but of course the idea of supporting local communities hits a soft spot in my small-town girl heart. Using digital outreach to revitalize mom and pop places is a smart, noble idea. I just wish the campaign’s design sense didn’t also need a makeover.

Credits after the jump.

Here are New Ads for the Oakland A’s, an American Professional Baseball Team

Resting on the east side of the San Francisco Bay is Oakland, a small city of just under 400,000 residents.

Best known for its temperate climate, a per capita murder rate twice that of neighboring San Francisco, and having the fifth busiest port in the United States, Oakland is also home to three professional sports teams. Its NFL franchise, nicknamed the “Raiders,” has fallen into disrepair following a period of dominance in the 1970s and 1980s due to poor team management and a myriad of other factors. Its NBA franchise, “The Golden State Warriors,” are best known for being forgotten when one attempts to remember basketball teams based out of California. However it’s Oakland’s Major League Baseball team, the “Athletics” (known colloquially as the “A’s”), that were once featured in an award-winning movie starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.

As a trio of TV spots from SF-based agency Hub Strategy show, the A’s are beloved for their players’ and coaches’ quirky habits and for their much-attended giveaway nights. In fact, it’s a northern California tradition for fans and non-fans alike to wait outside the team’s Overstock.com Coliseum for days-on-end, with men, women and children alike sacrificing health and happiness for the chance to walk away with a (presumably) green and yellow fleece blanket, coupons for game tickets and meals, or a bobble-head doll of the New York Yankees’ current active special advisor, Reggie Jackson. Watch one more spot (featuring a player named after a popular brand of chocolate breakfast cereal) and view credits after the jump.

And Now, Your Weekly Video Miscellany

Finally, after at least a couple weeks of wondering, Will Sasso of Mad TV fame has found a use for the 6-second video creation device known as Vine: choking up lemons. As if that’s not useful enough for you, we have an awesome new way to use GoPros to capture an array of shots from similar angles that make you look like a badass. Then, social farting and asking Kate Upton to prom and two trailers you won’t be able to skip, assuming you’re a Star Trek and/or Thrones fan. Let’s go.

6. Will Sasso has nailed Vine, using the platform to create 6 second lemon-takes. For some reason, whenever the word lemon or any citrus reference is made, Sasso coughs up an entire lemon. Sounds sour, but it’s oddly entertaining. Slap an ad on it and call it a day, boys. 217,197.

5. Here’s a PSA that equates social smoking (I only puff when I’m out with friends) to social farting, which is farting when you’re out with your friends – which doesn’t exist except that it does exist just not as outwardly. No comment; just 326,643.
