W+K NY Finds ‘Different Ways In’ for ESPN

W+K New York has a new campaign for ESPN, promoting the network’s coverage of college football and stoking fans’ excitement for the first year of the college football playoffs.

The campaign, entitled “Who’s In?” will run from the start of the season until a National Champion is crowned in January. “Different Ways In” (featured above), the campaign’s debut spot, launches today across ESPN’s networks and digital properties. Narrated by Burt Reynolds, the 60-second spot manages to cram in references to 20 different schools, as well as cameos from Jerry Jones, Jimmy Kimmel, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Sam Bradford and JJ Watt. That’s not a bad way to stoke excitement from fans of different schools for the FBS College Football Season on ESPN, which begins Wednesday, August 27. Stick around for credits after the jump. Doogie Howser (Almost) Drinks Heineken Light for W+K NY

From a kid in scrubs to a man with an angry inch, Neil Patrick Harris is quite possibly our leading example of a Renaissance Dude. The star may now add “drinking beer” to his illustrious resume along with acting, singing, cooking and talking to Smurfs.

Well, sort of…

According to The New York Times and Stuart Elliott, NPH (as the cool kids call him) will help promote Heineken Light in a humorous campaign created by Wieden + Kennedy New York that includes television and online spots and a microsite: besttastinglight.com.

W+K NY Names David Kolbusz ECD

David KolbuszW+K New York has just hired David Kolbusz as executive creative director, AdAge reports. Kolbusz joins W+K from BBH London, where he served as deputy executive creative director starting in December of 2012. He joined BBH London as a creative director/partner back in November, 2010.

While at BBH, Kolbusz helped lead such noteworthy campaigns as the “Apollo” campaign and recent “Peace” Super Bowl spot for Axe, as well as The Guardian’s “Three Little Pigs,” Adweek’s top commercial of 2012. Prior to BBH, Kolbusz served a three year stint as gr0up creative director at Goody, Silverstein & Partners after breaking into the industry as creative at TBWA/Toronto and Mother Limited.

Kolbusz fills a position at W+K New York that has been vacant since the departure of executive creative directors Scott Vitrone and Ian Reichenthal last November, and will ease into his new role this summer.

“David is one of the most exciting creative leaders working today,” Wieden & Kennedy co-global executive creative director Mark Fitzloff said in a statement. “He’s also a smart, funny, quirky guy who seems tailor-made for the culture of Wieden+Kennedy.”

AXE, BBH Offer an Important Lesson About Firefighters, Astronauts

Since BBH debuted last year’s Kiefer Sutherland-starring “Susan Glenn,” AXE’s TV spots have consistently been some of the best on TV. Well, maybe not the “best,” but considering how awful they used to be, they’ve come quite a long way. Now, with a new campaign for the AXE Apollo scent, BBH is taking things to a whole other level completely. That level, by the way, is freaking outer space.

The above spot, “Fireman,” teases the AXE Apollo Space Camp, which will allegedly offer 22 daring individuals the opportunity to receive rigorous astronaut training in Florida followed by a chance to go into outer space. Wait, outer space? Holy shit. Could this possible be legitimate in any way? Well, if you don’t believe AXE, do you believe the space camp’s spokesperson?

So, not only is this campaign apparently making history, but it’s giving us two great spots on top of that. For your chance to actually become an astronaut (that’s right, Lance Bass), enter at the AXE Apollo Space Camp website before February 3. Credits after the jump.

Kevin Bacon Worships Kevin Bacon Thanks to Logitech, Google TV

This spot from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners for the Logitech Revue with Google TV stars Ivan Cobenk, aka Kevin Bacon, who is an obsessed fan of, yes, Kevin Bacon (during the Footloose era of course) and uses his Revue to keep him immersed in everything Bacon. So much for a six degrees game.

Does this spot really show off the capabilities of the device? The message is whatever content you want to find, you can get through this device. Well, while we know for sure you won’t have a problem finding anything Bacon-related, it would be nice to see a little diversity. It would only help the product. Peep full credits after the jump.
