David R. Mitchell Indeed Lands at SapientNitro

In case you were clamoring for the conclusion to this story, it looks like David R. Mitchell is now officially on the payroll at SapientNitro’s Chicago office as his LinkedIn confirms that he’s joined the agency as VP, creative director. Our sources were spot-on as usual when we first reported a few weeks back that Sapient was Mitchell’s likely next destination after his “departure” from Digitas after 11 years of service. We’re checking into what accounts he’s exactly working on at his new employer.

Update: Now, we’ve received official word from SapientNitro that Mitchell has started today as executive creative director. The agency’s Chicago office services clients including Chrysler and Target, which will fall under the new ECD’s purview. In addition, Mitchell will be actively involved in pitching.

We Hear: David R. Mitchell Headed to SapientNitro

It looks like soon-to-be-out Digitas Chicago ECD David R. Mitchell has another gig already lined up. The creative, who we reported yesterday is parting ways with Digitas after 11 years in mid-July, apparently isn’t moving very far as word on the street is that he’s heading over to SapientNitro’s Chicago office. We’re unsure of Mitchell’s start date or title as of yet as the Sapient camp isn’t confirming or denying things (you pretty much know what this means at this point).

Prior to his decade-plus at Digitas, where he led teams on accounts including Miller Lite, Kraft, Harley Davidson and Walgreens, Mitchell served as SVP/ECD at Beyond DDB for nine years. He started his career as a copywriter at McCann Erickson/McCann Direct.

We Hear: Digitas NY – Layoffs (Updated)

Just weeks after we reported about impending layoffs at Digitas Health, reliable sources are telling us that Digitas New York proper has now cut some staff including creatives. We’re hearing from tipsters as well, who allege that the number is hovering somewhere around 30. But  we put in a call and email and are awaiting some proper word on numbers, departments affected, etc. Stay tuned.

Update: Sources familiar with the matter confirm that there were 40 cuts made across Digitas offices including New York. We’ve been told that it was not due to client loss, but just part of the agency network’s, sigh, “realignment.” Here is an official statement from the agency: “Reviewing, forecasting, calibrating assets and core business strategies is a standard practice to ensure the real-time, long-term health of the organization. Digitas USA is restructuring for growth for 2012 and beyond, within the dynamic climate of the marketplace. As a result, we had a very mild staff reduction representing less than 2% of work force.”

In other related news, we’ve also received confirmation that Digitas and David R. Mitchell, who served as an ECD in the Chicago office since 2007, have parted ways after 11 years. The agency’s comment:  “David R Mitchell be leaving Digitas mid-July. Lincoln Bjorkman, Chief Creative Officer of Digitas North America is lending his leadership and expertise for a seamless transition for staff and our valued client partners. We wish David the very best in his future pursuits. “
