Ex-Modernista! Strategist Winds Up at Hill Holiday

Well, it looks like one of those who defected from Modernista! (which spies allege was a result of Lance Jensen “cleaning house”) last week has found new employment. Thomas O’Connell, who was with said Boston agency for ten months and served as a director of strategy, has now landed a VP/communications planning gig across the way at Hill Holliday. No word on the job status of his colleague Ross Cidlowski, who also served as a co-director of strategy while at Modernista.

The latter agency, though, does tell us that it’s bringing in a new head of planning, who is expected to start next week and we’re being told is a “very big hire.” We should hear about the official announce on this within the next day or two. Stay tuned.

We Hear: Modernista! Loses a Few

Word on the street is that Modernista! creative director Will Uronis (pictured) is out at the agency after 10 years. Uronis was bumped up from art director to CD in 2003 and has since overseen work for Cadillac, Hummer, Converse, MTV and Napster among other accounts. We were immediately told Uronis was “not available” when we reached Modernista’s quarters in Boston. According to spies, he’s just one of a handful of “senior people” defecting from/fired by the agency. This latest tidbit comes six months after Modernista! revamped its creative team . We’re checking in for more on this, stay tuned…

Update: We’ve received word that Uronis has indeed left Modernista!, but on his own terms and that he’s “taking some time off and then looking at doing some freelancing.” We’re being told that the parting was “amicable” and the agency hopes to work with Uronis again.

Update 2: Other Modernista! departures include co-directors of strategy, Ross Cidlowski (who made it nine months) and Thomas O’Connell (10), who are “leaving to pursue other opportunities.” The agency, though, is in the process of announcing a new head of planning. We’ll keep you posted.
