AXE, BBH Offer an Important Lesson About Firefighters, Astronauts

Since BBH debuted last year’s Kiefer Sutherland-starring “Susan Glenn,” AXE’s TV spots have consistently been some of the best on TV. Well, maybe not the “best,” but considering how awful they used to be, they’ve come quite a long way. Now, with a new campaign for the AXE Apollo scent, BBH is taking things to a whole other level completely. That level, by the way, is freaking outer space.

The above spot, “Fireman,” teases the AXE Apollo Space Camp, which will allegedly offer 22 daring individuals the opportunity to receive rigorous astronaut training in Florida followed by a chance to go into outer space. Wait, outer space? Holy shit. Could this possible be legitimate in any way? Well, if you don’t believe AXE, do you believe the space camp’s spokesperson?

So, not only is this campaign apparently making history, but it’s giving us two great spots on top of that. For your chance to actually become an astronaut (that’s right, Lance Bass), enter at the AXE Apollo Space Camp website before February 3. Credits after the jump.

HBO Will Help You Insult Your Co-Workers this Holiday Season

If you believe in the wisdom of Love Actually, that lovely 2003 Christmas rom-com that Americans have been failing to re-create for a number of years now, you know that the holiday season is the perfect time to tell people how you really feel about them.

Luckily, with the gift of HBO series box-sets, BBDO NY is saying that you can finally express your feelings for casual work acquaintances. Think of the possibilities! You can give that self-absorbed whiny crybaby Girls. You can give that booze-hound who likes playing dress-up Boardwalk Empire. You can give that fist-pumping loudmouth douchebag with terrible taste Entourage. You can give that guy who keeps quoting Borat like it’s still funny Da Ali G Show. You can give that failed musician Flight of the Conchords. You can even give your office crush The Wire to let he or she know that you have immaculate taste in classic TV. Credits after the jump.

We Suppose This is the Best SFW Way to Promote Adult PPV

Seeking to push its pay-per-view adult channel Amour in mainstream media, Manitoba Telecom Services enlisted the help of Dare Vancouver, which in turn came up with a campaign that adds an unlikely twist to the most cliched porn scenarios. Biscuit Filmworks director Tim Godsall, who’s helmed everything from DirectTV’s “Opulence” spot to the Cars.com “Neck” Super Bowl XLVI entry, takes the reins behind the camera for this series of clips that has all the production value and bad acting of your average adult film minus the X-rated content. Looks like mission accomplished. Check out two more and credits after the jump.

HBO Doesn’t Want You to Be a Cheap Bastard this Xmas

With the help of Biscuit Filmworks’ Tim Godsall and BBDO NY, HBO is plugging DVD box sets of its hit shows like True Blood, Entourage as well as the underrated Eastbound & Down. Here, we see fans of the various shows’ significant others mimicking episodes and playing Grinch instead of actually going out and buying the damn box sets for their loved ones. Well, at least they’re being somewhat innovative.

We know it’s been diminishing returns with Entourage over the past couple of seasons, but we figured we’d throw Vinnie Chase and company a bone since it’s the season and all and post this clip at the top. As an added bonus, if you insist on showing off your ingenuity, there’s a site for you to make AR-enhanced puppet versions of select scenes of said shows here. Check out the funnier Eastbound clip and the, um, hi-tech True Blood episode rendition along with credits after the jump.
