World Cup frenzy is sweeping Twitter, and for many millions of fans around the world, that’s a good thing. But if you’re tired of seeing “gooooooal!” ad infinitum, you can rid yourself of the World Cup Twitter chatter with this simple Chrome extension.
Called Halftime, this extension has a straightforward claim: to “remove football tweets from your timeline.”
Once installed, you can toggle it on and off to switch between a timeline that is full of World Cup tweets and one that is free from them. A new menu item will appear on Twitter that allows you to either “show football” or “hide football.” When toggled on, most of the soccer-related tweets in your timeline will instantly disappear.
As Yahoo Tech notes, the extension has its faults. It cannot, for instance, hide every single World Cup-related tweet, especially if that tweet is a single word devoid of context.
Still, this extension is a great tool for those of you who would like a little respite from the World Cup – whether it’s because you haven’t seen the game and you want to avoid spoilers, or you’re just a little worn out.
If you have Chrome, you can install the extension here.
