Watch Tweets Being Sent Around The World In Real-Time With Tweetping [MAP]

More than one billion tweets are sent every 2-3 days across Twitter, which has become a social network of significant importance (to varying degrees) in every continent, and almost every country, around the world.

Absorbing all of those tweets is an impossible task, as there are simply too many of them to follow. But wouldn’t it be great if there was a way that you could see all of that Twitter activity, as it happened, in real-time?

Twitter Now Seeing 400 Million Tweets Per Day, Increased Mobile Ad Revenue, Says CEO

Twitter just keeps on getting bigger. And, perhaps, has finally cracked the nut that continues to hang over the platform’s head: profitability.

Speaking at The Economist‘s Ideas Economy: Information 2012 event yesterday, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo revealed a couple of juicy tidbits about the state of the micro-blogging platform, circa June 2012. One, that Twitter is now seeing a heady 400 million tweets per day. And two, that mobile advertising surpassed the company’s non-mobile revenue stream for the first time two weeks ago.

Twitter Now Has More Than 140 Million Active Users Sending 340 Million Tweets Every Day

It’s Twitter’s sixth birthday, and to celebrate the company has posted some new stats over on the official Twitter blog.

They’re big, too: Twitter now has “more than 140 million active users” sending a heady 340 million tweets each and every day.

Or, in another words, over a billion tweets every 72 hours.

Are You Addicted To Twitter? Here’s How To Find Out

The jury is out, and they’ve delivered a damning verdict: Twitter is addictive.

But how bad can it be? Twitter co-founder Biz Stone recently said that spending hours and hours on the network each and every day is “unhealthy”, but while Twitter sees around 250 million daily tweets from its 130-140 million (estimated) active users, that equates to a per user average of just 1.85 tweets per day. And it’s a lot less if you factor in the entire userbase.

Which hardly seems extreme. However, it does somewhat beg the questions: how often do YOU tweet? And how much is too much?

Twitter has confirmed that there are over 250,000,000 tweets posted every single day on the network, but how many are coming from outside North America? New stats suggest that quite a chunk of the daily tweets are coming from Italy, as Italians embrace Twitter as the new social network of choice.

Twitter: From Zero To 200 Million Tweets A Day In 5 Years [INFOGRAPHIC]

On Friday Twitter celebrated its five-year birthday – while the platform’s technical birth was on March 21, Twitter first opened its doors to the general public on July 15, 2006.

As we noted in our piece, a lot has changed in those five years. And this new infographic from Visual.ly shows us just how much.

Twitter Now Seeing 200 Million Tweets Per Day [REPORT]

In January 2009, Twitter users were sending two million tweets per day.

A year ago, 65 million. In April of this year, that number was up to 155 million.

Well, put a note in your calendar, because as of June 2011, Twitter is now seeing an incredible 200 million tweets each and every day.

Or, as Twitter puts it, about 8,163 copies of War And Peace.

Twitter By The Numbers – One Billion Tweets Per Week, 460,000 New Accounts Per Day, 400 Employees

A nice summary over on the official Twitter blog that details how Twitter has grown since inception – and even in the last month.

Highlights include:

  • It took Twitter a total of 3 years, 2 months and 1 day to reach one billion tweets. It now sees that number each and every week.
  • When Michael Jackson died, Twitter set a record of 456 TPS, or tweets per second (I remember it well, as I was one of the first to break the news). Shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day in Japan, Twitter raised this mark to 6,939 TPS.
  • Twitter is now seeing an average of 460,000 new users signing up each day – or just under 14 million on a typical month. The record was set on Saturday, March 12, when 572,000 new profiles were added. At this pace, Twitter will double in size in just over a year.
  • As I’ve documented before, Twitter now has 400 employees. Three years ago, it had 8.

Good, clean, interesting statistics. But as AllThingsD observes, once again Twitter has denied us the information that we desire the most – the total number of users. Or specifically, the total number of active users. Facebook is always very forthcoming with this information, so I guess we have to assume that either (a) Twitter’s numbers are never as good as we might expect, (b) they’re really into this whole mystery thing or (c) the user statisticians are trapped under something heavy.

Whatever the reason, it’s getting a little bit old. Part of me is hoping for a buyout just so we can get some actual data.
