First Time Ever: Tweets Will Decide Ending Of TV Episode

Do you watch Hawaii Five-O? If you usually DVR it or otherwise record it, you may want to tune in live tonight or you’ll miss a TV first: “the first time a primetime drama has put the outcome of a scripted show into the fans’ hands via Twitter.”

The show is having viewers decide how tonight’s murder mystery episode ends – and it’s happening in real-time on Twitter.

Proving itself to be the most valuable player when it comes to Social TV, Twitter has raised the bar for its competitors with this TV first.

Twitter shares that the “#H50 team will spend [tonight's] episode investigating the mysterious death of a professor, with the TA, the student, and the boss all prime suspects. As the drama unfolds on screen, viewers will see a prompt to vote for the culprit by tweeting #theTA, #TheStudent or #TheBoss.”

Behind the scenes, the Hawaii Five-0 production team will be tallying the votes immediately, and will put the most popular selection on air to end the show.

The episode will be on tonight, Monday, January 14 from 10-11pm ET & PT, and there will be separating voting for each coast.  Will each half of the country see different endings? We’ll have to wait and see!

But don’t worry about missing out on the best ending, because all three endings will all be available at after the broadcasts.

“I’ve always felt the most fun aspect of watching a mystery is trying to figure out whodunit,” says Executive Producer Peter Lenkov. “Now the HAWAII FIVE-0 viewers will actually get the chance to tell us who they think committed the crime and we will listen. I love that our dedicated and attentive fans will actually play a part in resolving our story.”

Will you be tuning in and voting?
