Remember the Fail Whale?
Sure you do. If you’ve been active on Twitter for a few years, the Fail Whale was a regular feature. Sure, he was cute, but as he only appeared when Twitter was having problems he was essentially an unwelcome guest.
I can’t remember the last time the whale made an appearance, but it seems like forever. Which, while good for Twitter, is kind of a shame: part of me misses those exciting days of yore. Beautifully designed by Yiying Lu, the Fail Whale remains an iconic figure in tech, and Lu has now turned her attentions to another project which is currently being funded on Kickstarter.
#NestingTwitter is a set of hand-crafted Matroyshka Dolls – aka Russian nesting dolls – that feature the five personalities that shaped Twitter since its inception: Noah Glass, Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Ev Williams and Dick Costolo.
There are seven dolls in total. The outermost doll represents the Twitter community as a whole, while the innermost doll is one of three random designs by Lu, including the original Fail Whale, a different Fail Whale and a Twitter bird.
