Background: Tucked into the fold of your Sunday-edition paper, you might find a copy of Parade. Its paper stock gives it the feel of a supermarket tabloid and its cover is simple: an appealing image, usually of a celebrity, paired with a few blurbs. Inside, features are accompanied by big headlines and plenty of pictures.

Advance Publications' Parade is carried by more than 515 Sunday newspapers and reaches an estimated 73 million readers (as the magazine approximates that two to three people per household page through each issue). Some big metropolitan newspapers produce their own Sunday magazines; the rest carry Parade, the most widely-read magazine in America, says articles editor Megan Gagnon. The magnitude of its reach makes it hard to pin down a demographic, though. Readers are split about 50/50 between men and women, are slightly more affluent than the national average, and their median age is in the late 30s. ...
