Background: Like an innovative idea attracting venture funding, Inc. benefits from great timing. The magazine was founded in 1979 by an insatiably curious, MIT-educated engineer, rocket scientist and inventor for Polaroid -- and its profile has risen along with the public's perception of the up-and-comers that turn to its pages for advice. The success of this "bible of small business," as the New York Post calls it, is tracking the world's increasing admiration for innovative, DIY spirit.
