Bruce Becker: The FishbowlDC Interview

Becker Bruce.JPGSay hello to Fox Business Networks’ D.C. Bureau Chief Bruce Becker.

What word do you routinely misspell? “Misspell.” My nightmare is sending out a memo reminding people not to misspell, and I misspell “misspell.” I had to look it up three times just to give you this answer.

What is the name of your cell phone ring? “Hey there Delilah” by Plain White T’s. No, wait. That’s my daughter’s. I actually have whatever boring ring tone that the phone came with. No one calls it, anyway, so it doesn’t matter.

What time did you get up this morning? 4:30am. I have a lot of nervous energy these days.

When did you last cry and why? NOYB.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Too many. (Some day I’d like to see someone answer “Just the right amount” to that question.)

What’s your favorite letter? All of the Greek ones, of course. (That’s economics humor, which might explain why nobody calls me).

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? I’d have to say Roger Ailes had the biggest influence. As the force behind Fox News, he gave me some great opportunities that have propelled my career in the last eleven years. I’m very thankful.

Also, drop us a line to let us know who else you’d like FishbowlDC to interview. They must work in the Washington area and you must include their email address.

When’s the last time you volunteered? Where? I am a parent volunteer for my daughter’s high school field hockey team; I take stats and write up game reports. It gives me a chance to do sports reporting, which I have never tried in my professional career. It is a lot of fun and much more difficult than I expected.

Who is your favorite active journalist? Brit Hume. Special Report is the best news program on TV. There are a lot of very good people that contribute to the quality of that show, but Brit is the primary reason it is as good as it is.

What did you have for breakfast? Sausage and eggs.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Huh?

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? The one that allows you to filter out unwanted emails.

Red or white wine? Sure.

PG-13 or R? I’m old enough now for the “R” films now, which is kind of nice.

Lincoln, Jefferson or Washington Memorial? Where did you get these questions?

Leg or breast (chicken, of course) Leg.

Friday night or Saturday night? Saturday.

“Wedding Crashers” or “Old School” “Great Santini.”

The Palm or Cafe Milano? I’ll take a nice dinner at home over either of those places. My wife is a terrific cook: she has passion, creativity and flair, and it shows in her cooking. If it’s my turn to cook, we’ll go the “La Loma Dos” in Chevy Chase.

Yankees or Red Sox? Cubs.

Jenna or Barbara? They seem like very nice kids. I think having your dad become president at that age has got to be tough. I think they’ve handled it quite well.

McSteamy or McDreamy? Am I in the right interview? Why don’t you ask me about McMonetary policy?

Leno or Letterman? See the answer to #3. I get up at 4:30a.

Stewart or Colbert? Stewart is much funnier. (I’m sure Colbert will be devastated to hear that).

Boxers or briefs? We’ll leave that a mystery. I believe that most people really don’t want to know what you’ve got on underneath.
