Condon Joins Congress Daily

Email from Lou Peck, editor in chief of Congress Daily, sent today:

We’re very pleased to announce that George Condon will be coming aboard early next year as our new White House correspondent. George is a veteran of more than 30 years with Copley Newspapers, starting out as a California-based political reporter in 1978 and then joining Copley’s Washington bureau in 1982. He became bureau chief in 1984, and ran the bureau for a quarter of a century in addition to covering the White House and national politics. (If you’ve read today’s New York Times, you may have noticed George quoted in the story about the regrettable cutbacks in many Washington newspaper bureaus — the Copley bureau recently fell victim to this trend.) In 2006, George oversaw the coverage that led to the Copley bureau and the chain’s flagship newspaper, the San Diego Union, being awarded the Pulitzer Prize for national reporting — for uncovering the corruption that led to the conviction and imprisonment of former Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham of California. George subsequently co-authored a book on the Cunningham case. Given the intense level of activity certain to surround a new — and history-making — presidency next year, we’re delighted to have someone of George’s experience and expertise in-house. We’ll see that he is introduced to all of you once we get back from the Christmas recess. In the meantime, please join us in welcoming him.
