Twitter Lets Some Users Favorite Accounts

Our sister-site AllTwitter.com is reporting that Twitter is now allowing some select users to favorite whole accounts. Users have long been able to favorite individual tweets, but the ability to star someone’s Twitter feed is new. AllTwitter’s Allison Stadd explains how the new feature could be useful:

Different people use Twitter’s favorite button for different things (here are my 4 suggestions). But what if you could favorite actual Twitter accounts? Is that something you’d find useful?

Two potential productive uses of the Twitter favorite button (which, as TheNextWeb points out,Sina Weibo already effectively offers):

- The chance to publicly endorse a small handful of Twitter accounts on your profile

- A notification system for when a select group of Twitter users you follow sends tweets

If anyone out there is DC Journo-land is among the lucky few who can favorite accounts, get it touch and let us know how the new feature is affecting your tweeting habits.

Jesse Ventura Has a New TV Show -And a Holiday Message

Rejoice America! The good folks at Ora.tv -the same people who brought you Larry King Now on RT -are rolling out a new show that will almost definitely save the nation’s soul. Off The Grid with Jesse Ventura, the former Minnesota governor and potential 2016er, is set to debut in January -and if this holiday promo is any indication, it’s going to be awesome.

Ventura, per usual, has no problem mixing up politics and entertainment -talking up a potential 2016 Presidential run even as he launches his new show. His most recent e-mail blast calls on citizens to “be vigilant and vote” to “replace these DemoCRIPs and ReBLOODlicans with independent, free thinkers who aren’t bought by Super PACs and special interest groups.” That outsider message, plus the inclusive, populist appeal on display in the video above could make for a compelling candidacy, should Ventura actually run for President. But if you ask us, Jesse’s primary interest is getting people to tune in.

No word yet if this champion of liberty will, like Larry King, take to the Russian-owned RT channel to broadcast his message.

Geraldo Loves the “J” Word

Geraldo Rivera had some choice words for a Twitter provocateur the other day. A writer for libcom.org -a London-based libertarian-communist website (yeah that’s a thing) -took issue with Rivera’s recent comments that Alec Baldwin was not using a slur when he described a reporter as a “C@*k-sucking Faggot.” Rivera responded by calling him a “jerkoff.”

It strikes us as rather unseemly to exchange words like that with someone on Twitter, especially someone who has less than a hundred followers -but since the demise of Geraldo’s radio career, perhaps he has more time to devote to these sorts of things. Interestingly, this is the second time this month Geraldo has branded someone a “jerkoff” via Twitter. On December 16th, after he had lost his syndicated radio show following a selfie scandal, he referred to his on-air replacement as a “right wing jerk off Rush wannabe.”

Hm, methinks the queen doth protest too much…

Why Aren’t You Watching Dick Morris TV???

We here at FishbowlDC have lamented the proliferation of janky online videos in the past, but that was before we saw Dick Morris explain the Civil War. Now we see the error of our ways. Dick Morris has taken the janky online video genre and turned it into an art-form. And apparently he’s doing it all from the comfort of his living room.

Sure we’ve ragged on places like USA Today and WaPo for poor production quality and lackluster personalities, but now we see that the problem with those videos was actually that they were trying too hard.

Dick Morris isn’t trying at all -and the results are amazing. Imagine the love child of Kathy Bates and Harvey Fierstein teaching history from the set of a Werther’s Original commercial. And now times that by a million. Also, you’ve got to admire a man who has mastered the art of the shameless plug. These “educational videos” are actually an elaborate marketing campaign for his children’s book! Genius! But we won’t say any more -we don’t want to spoil it for you. You really should just experience it for yourselves…

Click the pic to watch. For some (probably artistic) reason, Dick’s videos don’t embed…
