DC Mag Announces New Editor-in-Chief

From the release:

DC Modern Luxury has hired Karen Sommer Shalett as editor-in-chief to replace Ann McCarthy who is stepping down from the position on December 22.

Until now, Karen Sommer Shalett wrote the shopper column for the Washington Post and is known to Washingtonians for her savvy fashion sense and smart advice on the latest trends. Previously, Sommer Shalett worked in New Orleans for the Times-Picayune. While in her position there, she launched and edited WISH, the paper’s monthly shopping magazine. Sommer Shalett proved her abilities as an editor by winning the magazine a Louisiana Press Association 2005 award.
Before working in New Orleans, she rose to the position of style director at PaperCity magazine, and worked as a freelancer, traveling nationally and internationally.

A DC native with an English degree from the University of Michigan, Sommer Shalett also spent several years working on political campaigns. Publisher Peter Abrahams notes “Karen’s background in media, journalism and luxury lifestyle establishes her as an ideal editor-in-chief for DC Modern Luxury.”
