An email memo sent to staffers at The Kiplinger Letter Tuesday from Managing Editor Melissa Bristow announced the new hire of Glenn Somerville. Somerville, originally born in Canada, comes to The Kiplinger Letter from Reuters, where he spent 27 years earning him the title of “Dean of the Treasury Dept. Press Corps.”

In the excitement of Jerry Idaszak’s retirement last week, I neglected to send out a notice welcoming a great addition. Please join me now in this belated welcome to Glenn Somerville. Glenn spent 27 years with Reuters, where he earned the sobriquet “Dean of the Treasury Dept. press corps.” Among the long list of his accomplishments, Glenn provided breaking coverage of events at Treasury and the Federal Reserve during the 2008-2009 financial crisis, including policymakers’  decision to bail out the banks. We are fortunate that he has agreed to bring his experience and knowledge to Kiplinger, where he will help shape the Letters’ economic coverage.

A Canadian by birth, Glenn lives in Arlington, VA.
