Fournier Looks Outside Beltway for Two New Hires

In an early morning memo today, NJ Editor in Chief Ron Fournier announced the hires of two new reporters – they’re both Statehouse reporters. They are Jim O’Sullivan of Boston, Mass., and Alex Roarty of Harrisburg, Pa.

O’Sullivan is lead reporter for State House News Service. They are creating a new “chief analyst” roll for him at CongressDaily. Roarty, meanwhile, is editor at PoliticsPA and Pennsylvania Legislative Services. He covers the commonwealth’s Senate, gubernatorial races and congressional elections. Here in Washington, he’ll be staff writer on the political team.

Both men begin September 20.

Subject: From the Statehouse!

I’m pleased to tell you we’re bringing two top statehouse reporters to Washington to bolster our congressional and political coverage: Jim O’Sullivan of Boston, Mass., and Alex Roarty of Harrisburg, Pa.

Jim is a lead reporter for State House News Service, a privately owned wire service based in Boston. He will fill the newly created role of chief analyst for CongressDaily, a key spot on the soon-to-be-united National Journal Group congressional staff. While his colleagues bring our readers the detailed coverage those readers value, Jim will connect the dots with compelling narratives that pull the seemingly disparate threads together.

Alex is an editor at PoliticsPA and Pennsylvania Legislative Services, where he covers the commonwealth’s Senate and gubernatorial races while providing regular updates on 10 competitive congressional elections. Alex will be a staff writer on our growing political team in advance of one of the most significant congressional elections in history. He will play a big role in covering the 2010 midterm elections as well as the 2012 presidential races.

They both start Sept. 20. Please welcome them to the team.
