Giving ‘Voice to the Voiceless’

spinnerbook.jpgIn a chat today at Washingtonpost.com about kidnapped reporter Jill Carroll, Jackie Spinner, former Baghdad correspondent and author of the forthcoming “Tell Them I Didn’t Cry,” explained why reporters still want to go Iraq:

“Journalists want to go to Iraq for the same reason we go to any conflict–to see for ourselves, to listen, to record the truth. This is often a very difficult thing for non-journalists to understand, how the quest for truth can take us to some of the most dangerous places in the world. But it is in those very places where we are most needed to give voice to the voiceless.”
