Hacker Wields Influence On Time’s Annual List

FBDC’s “Hottest Media Contest” isn’t the only online poll to get hacked…

“Moot” now tops Time’s online poll for the annual list of 100 most influential after the site was inundated with illegitimate votes by followers of 4chan, an online message board.

Folio Mag reports hackers used “autovoters” to inundate the Time poll with millions of votes for “moot,” a pseudonym of Christopher Poole, operator of 4chan.

“We took many preventative measures to maintain the integrity of the Time 100 poll on Time.com, and moot has a passionate community of users who worked to influence the poll,” a Time spokesperson wrote in an e-mail to Folio.

We’ll find out May 1st if “moot” makes it in the mag.
