Help! Fix Howie’s Teleprompter!

Funny, we didn’t think National Review Contributing Editor Jim Geraghty bore any clear resemblance to Newsweek‘s Eleanor Clift. But who knows? Maybe CNN “Reliable Sources” Host Howard Kurtz had spun himself around so many times that he didn’t know who was who.

On his Sunday program, Geraghty and Clift planted strange smiles on their faces as Kurtz introduced them to America as each other. Chicago Sun Times‘ Washington Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet got to play herself.

Howie’s flub: “Joining us now, Lynn Sweet wash bureau chief and columnist for the Chicago Sun Times, Eleanor Clift, contributing editor at Newsweek and The Daily Beast and a panelist on the McLaughlin Group and Jim Geraghty, contributing editor at National Review.”

Geraghty took a moment away from getting his hair cut today to talk to FishbowlDC. He said he knew the error was happening, but didn’t think it was a big deal. “Are you really going to write about this?” he asked. (Well, of course we are. What does he think I’m doing on the phone with him? I used the silent trick and waited for him to say more.) “Out of the corner of my eye it looked like they were flipped. Not much you can do about it. I’m sure it’s not the biggest snafu I’ve ever seen in cable news. I’m sure most people at home can figure it out. I look forward to this fascinating and in-depth article.”

The photographs above are Geraghty’s and Clift’s parade of awkward faces as Kurtz introduced them. In the moment, Clift seemed to take the whole thing in stride, as if to say, ‘Who cares? So I’m Geraghty today. Anyhow, Howie…’
