How Russert Got It

Rep. Ray LaHood, who was part of the meeting this week at the White House with President Bush on Iraq, shed some light on how Tim Russert found out about the meeting. Speaking on C-SPAN, he says that Russert was the one to call the Members after the meeting.

(sorry, in advance, for the CAPS)

Host: GOING BACK TO THE MEETING OF JOHN’S COLUMN IN THE “NEW YORK POST” POINTS OUT THAT SOMEBODY WALKED OUT OF THAT MEETING AND CALLED TIM RUSSERT.

Guest: WELL THAT, ARTICLE IS NOT ACCURATE, EITHER. SOMEONE SHOWED ME THAT ARTICLE, AND, YOU KNOW, IT’S JUST, IT’S SIMPLY NOT ACCURATE, YOU KNOW. I MEAN, IT’S NOT. I MEAN, I KNOW THAT TIM RAN A STORY THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY ABOUT WHO WAS THERE AND WHAT WAS SAID. BUT I DIDN’T CALL TIM RUSSERT, BUT –

Host: THEY DIDN’T SAY YOU DID.

    Guest: NO, NO, I KNOW.

Host: THEY JUST SAID SOMEBODY IN THE MEETING CALLED TIM RUSSERT. BUT WHAT WOULD BE ACCURATE, TIM RUSSERT CALLED SOMEBODY?

Guest: THAT IS CORRECT, THAT’S PROBABLY WHAT HAPPENED.

Host: THERE WERE 11 PEOPLE THERE –

Guest: THAT’S RIGHT. I’M SURE HE WENT THROUGH THE LIST AND CALLED SOMEBODY.
