John Carroll University Remembers Alum Tim Russert

John Carroll University has recently named its Department of Communications and Theatre Arts after the late Tim Russert. The university has also started a scholarship and NBC Meet the Press fellowship in the 1972 alum’s memory.

The idea for the scholarship and fellowship came out of conversations John Carroll University President Robert L. Niehoff had with Russert’s friend and colleague Tom Brokaw. The department was named at “A Tribute to Tim Russert ’72″ in May and with the blessing of his wife Maureen Orth and son Luke Russert.

MTP executive producer Betsy Fischer was on campus yesterday to interview the three fellowship finalists. She says they’re “very impressive.”

And just for fun- check out a pic of Tim back in his John Carroll days on Betsy’s Twitter page.
