Obama Turns Fat Lip Injury Into Phat Jokes

IN THE DEEP END…TIPS FROM THE POOL

In an effort to make a bloody situation useful, President Obama inserted two funny references to his lip injury into a speech  he gave at his Kennedy Center Honoree Reception at the White House Sunday evening. He and singer Paul McCartney played off each other on the lip saga.

As reported by the NYP‘s Washington Bureau Chief Charlie Hurt:

POTUS recalled how McCartney — in the WH earlier this year for another award — had song his famous love song “Michelle” to FLOTUS in the East Room. He then said something along the lines of how the former Beatle was worried he might become the first guest in the WH to get punched by the president. Everybody laughed, then McCartney pointed to his own lower lip — to highlight POTUS’s busted lip from last week’s basketball game and the crowd fell apart with rowdy laughter. POTUS did that laugh he does when somebody else says something funny and said, “I can’t afford another one.”

…Later during comments about the importance of humanities, POTUS was trying to read “superfluous” from TelePromTer. He stumbled repeatedly, then said, “You try it with 12 stitches.” Finally, he got it right and everybody applauded.
