Reporters Without Borders Launches Tribute Page for James Foley

JimFoley304In memory of James Foley, the American photo journalist beheaded this week by ISIS, Reporters Without Borders created a tribute page to serve as a forum where anyone, including colleagues and members of the media, can share memories and leave messages.

“To us, he was an extraordinary journalist, who abhorred violence and was motivated by the desire to highlight the plight of the victims of war,” said Reporters Without Borders secretary-general Christophe Deloire. “As an internationally renowned journalist, James’ work took him to Libya and Syria. While being held captive by the Islamic State, he remained impassive in the face of threats, clinging to the hope that he would eventually return home. Courageous and composed, he communicated his hope to his fellow prisoners.”

In a statement on Foley’s taped murder – that was posted to YouTube on Tuesday by ISIS – President Barack Obama described Foley as ”a man who lived his work, who courageously told the stories of his fellow human beings, who was liked and loved by friends and family” and concluded by vowing “we will do everything we can to protect our people and the timeless values that we stand for.”
