Jeff Flake and Donna Edwards to Speak at That Other Political Press Dinner

Did you know, there are actually TWO big dinners to go to in late winter/early spring where politicians and journalists mingle and laugh and eat and generally disgust the rest of the country with their chummy behavior? Well it’s true! There’s the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, which everyone knows about, and will be on May 3rd next year. And then there’s the Washington Press Club Foundation’s Congressional Dinner, which will be on February 5th.

You could be forgiven for forgetting about the WPCF’s dinner -last year the headline speakers were Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D -N.D.) and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). BOR-ING! But this year is different. This year they booked none other than…..

….oh, um…Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD). Dear me, that’s not very exciting either is it? What’s with this dinner, huh guys? Conan or Jimmy or Jimmy were busy? On the plus side, they did score CNN’s lovely Brianna Keilar as host for the evening.

In any event, at least it raises money for noble causes -giving young lady journalists and minority journalists internships in Washington news bureaus and also documenting oral histories of pioneering female journalists. That’s something to feel good about if you’re attending. Which is good, cuz with all those Congresspeople around you’re bound to feel a little bit sleazy…
