Kal Penn Named Special Correspondent of Fusion’s ‘Midterm Mayhem’

Fusion_TV_2013_logoFusion today announced that actor, producer, and former associate director of the White House’s Office of Public Engagement Kal Penn will join its midterm election coverage as a special correspondent with the launch of “Midterm Mayhem: The Ultimate Political Smackdown.” In addition to its television broadcast, the program will be live streamed.

“It’s definitely possible to be entertaining while having conversations about things that actually matter in the democratic process,” said Penn in a release. “Our political debates generate a lot punchlines and crazy segments, and that’s fun, but we’re hoping to offer some smart, engaging, and entertaining reporting without obsessing over the lowest common denominator. We hope to inspire people to get off the sidelines, get engaged, and wake up on election day and actually vote.” Read more

Fox News to Hatch New Political Show

Political reporters and pundits take note. If Fox News finds you worthy (and we already know they tend to waver on Politico reporters) you may wind up being asked to appear on a new online talk show they have in the works.

FishbowlDC has learned that the program in development is called The Greene Room, to be hosted by Jehmu Greene. Greene joined FNC in 2010 as a contributor. The format will be similar to the “The Five” focusing mainly on politics but also other topics du jour. All women co-hosts… Margaret Hoover, Alicia Menendez, Dee Dee Benkie, and Kirsten Powers are the names being considered with Jehmu as main host.

We’re told that it will start off as an online http://live.foxnews.com/ program. But if successful, it may be a new weekend program on FNC. Online producer Maria Karlsson has been tasked with running it. While the details of the show are in “heavy discussion” right now, a start date is unknown at this time.

Journo Hate Mail: Alicia Menendez

Betsy wrote this morning about a hateful tweet received by FNC contributor Kirsten Powers over the weekend.  Powers re-tweeted the message sent to her by @towelheadradio:  “@kirstenpowers10 shut the fuck up u dumb ugly slut. only reason u got ur job is cause ur blonde.” Kirsten questioned, “Do men get these?”

The post prompted a number of female media types to forward us some of the nasty tweets and sexist emails they’ve received.  A few of the finest came from Alicia Menendez, daughter of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and a frequent media commentator.  No one called her “blonde” but each one questioned her intelligence in messages littered with grammatical and spelling errors.  The first, from Jerry “Mel Gibson” McDowell, is no exception .  It sounds like “Uncle Jerry” was too drunk to kick the dog so he resorted to emailing Menendez instead:

You stupid frigging ugly spic bitch. You could not find you lunatic and leftwing ass with both hands. Sarah Palin could have a bowel movement smarter than you. How would you like to look in the mirror one time and see what Sarah sees? Brilliance, Beauty, and Common Sense. None of these you are familiar with.

You and the “old”, stupid son of a bitch named clarence dupnik are damn good pair. You both prove the gene pool needs a good cleansing.

You would screw up a one car funeral.

Then there’s this little love/hate letter from Chazz “Moodswing McGee” Herns who thinks Menendez is a “dumb ass bitch” but “HOT.”  That’s sweet.

to            Alicia Menendez

from      Chazz Herns

You are one dumb ass Bitch. I can’t believe you actually belive all the bullshit you spit out.

And you are such a fucken question dodger. I hate people like you and I pray the worst to you.

Only thing you got going for you is …you are so HOT.

But that is it.

She’s also been accused of naming our mountains, streets and schools “Spanish names.”  Oh…so  that’s how my parents ended up living on Vista Del Lago Lane. Damn you, Menendez!

regarding your spot on the Bill O’Reilly show.  WE WANT YOU HISPANICS THE HELL OUT OF THE USA, YOU PEOPLE DON’T COME TO JOIN THE USA AS ALL OTHER IMMIGRANT GROUPS DO, YOU PEOPLE COME TO STEAL THE USA FROM THE ANGLOS, THEFT BEING THE EVERLASTING LEGACY OF THE HISPANIC PEOPLE. I AM REFERRING TO HOW YOU PEOPLE TRY TO FORCE YOUR LANGUAGE ON US AND HOW YOU TRY TO FORCE US TO GIVE FULL SPANISH NAMES TO OUR CITIES, STREETS, SCHOOLS, RIVERS, MOUNTAINS, HIGHWAYS, ETC.

Finally, the romantic words of Steve “Grammar Bee” Kennedy:

It’s Here. Washington Life‘s 2009 The Young & The Guest List

And now the moment we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for… Washington Life Magazine‘s 2009 The Young & the Guest List is here.

The annual collection of 250 of the “most influential Washingtonians under 40″ includes the scene’s well-knowns like NBC’s Luke Russert, Fox’s Bret Baier and CNN’s Jessica Yellin, as well as fresh new faces like MIX 107.3′s Tommy McFly.

Now we can’t divulge the full list here, but we can share these stats:

55% of the individuals on the 2009 Young & The Guest List are new additions to the list this year. (Note: the total number of listees has not increased since 2008)

39 individuals, or approximately 1 in 6, work on Capitol Hill, in the White House, the diplomatic corps, or public service

41 are CEO’s and 67 people, or approximately 1 in 4 have founded a company or non-profit

34% are married

Male 54%/Female 46%

35 people, or 12% are media professionals

The 2009 Y&GL party will be held Thursday, April 16th at an undisclosed location, and the guest list is pretty exclusively these 250 and one guest each.

To see if you’ve made the cut, check out the 35 media professionals after the jump.
