Journos Fete Kournikova and Cap File

Capitol File Magazine’s Jason Binn, John Colabelli and Sarah Schaffer feted this issue’s cover star Anna Kournikova at Oya last night. The event brought out media types such as Politico‘s Kiki Ryan, WBJ‘s Jennifer Nycz-Conner, CBS News’ Christine Delargy, CNBC’s John Harwood, Examiner‘s Tara Palmeri, CNN Political Director Sam Feist and Michelle Jaconi, new EP for CNN’s John King, USA.

Fishbowl caught up with a very dolled-up Jaconi who told us that she and King are “thrilled by the feedback and support” they received from the launch of John King, USA.

“We received dozens of flower arrangements and gift baskets on the day the show premiered – many from competitive networks,” said Jaconi.

Other guests spotted were Winston Lord, Jessica Gibson and Fingerprint DC’s Jayne Sandman and Barbara Martin.

Kournikova Opens Up to Capitol File

CF_COVER_SPRING10 copy (2).jpg The Spring issue of Capitol File hit newsstands today, boasting a photo spread and cover-story about tennis player Anna Kournikova who has been focusing her attention on humanitarian efforts and providing relief to Haiti:

Kournikova has been quietly flying to Haiti and Russia to work with those in need. She’s talked with child slaves about their plight; she’s handed out condoms; she’s gotten AIDS tests to set an example for sex workers who often fear testing and the stigma associated with it and the disease itself.

On her recent involvement with relief efforts in Haiti Kournikova tells Capitol File magazine that “What I saw in Haiti was just ridiculous.” “When I spent summers in the [Russian] country-side with my great-grandmother, running around barefoot, at least we had water, we had fields, we could grow food and you weren’t eating mud cookies.”

“If you read a book, you get all the facts and statistics, but if you see [suffering and disease] with your own eyes, it really changes your whole understanding,” says Kournivoka.

Check out the full story and sexy spread in the March issue of Cap File.

Kastles Opening Night in Washington: A Grand Slam

Last night, the press came out in full force to catch a glimpse of Venus Williams; fresh from Wimbledon and playing against the Washington Kastles for the Philadelphia Freedom.

Though Serena Williams, Washington’s headliner didn’t hit the court for our home team, her sister was kind enough to help Kastles Owner Mark Ein kick off the season in style with a news conference, interviews and plenty of photo opps.

Spotted courtside: Mayor Adrian Fenty and family, AOL Co-founder Steve Case, new Cap File EIC Sarah Schaffer, BCM’s Katherine Kennedy, Anystream Founder Geoff Allen, TWT’s Stephanie Green and Liz Glover, Redskins Hall of Famer Darrell Green and the Wizards’ Caron Butler.

If you haven’t been to a Kastles match, go this season. I’m obsessed. You can catch Anna Kournikova tonight or click here for this season’s full schedule.
