Pew Looks at 2014 Newspaper Coverage of Potential 2016 Presidential Candidates

PRC-Logo-2The Pew Research Center, which today announced that Michael Dimock will take over tomorrow as president, released a study on media coverage of potential candidates in the 2016 presidential election. Using LexisNexis, Pew analyzed mentions of potential presidential campaigns in 15 of the top U.S. newspapers from Jan. 1 – Sept. 27, 2014.

Tied for the most mentions of a possible 2016 run for president is Hillary Clinton and NJ Gov. Chris Christie with 82 stories while 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney was mentioned 74 times. With just more than a quarter of the coverage received by Clinton, the highest other Democrat is Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 22 mentions, followed by VP Joe Biden with 18.

The report goes on to compare Republican and Democrat mentions thus far this year and potential presidential candidate coverage two years prior to the 2008 and 2012 elections. For the full look at Pew’s ‘News in the Numbers,’ click here.

CNN’s Jake Tapper Joins Seth Meyers, NJ Gov. Chris Christie Sits Down with Jimmy Fallon

Looking for a laugh? Look no further than tonight’s comedy lineup where CNN host of “The Lead” Jake Tapper will sit down with Seth Meyers for his “Late Night” program. No clue yet as to what the topic of conversation will be but expect some jabs at the news anchor’s media career and March coverage of the missing plane.

Also running the circuit – Chris Christie will join Jimmy Fallon as a guest on “Tonight.” The New Jersey Governor has been a joke line for Fallon, most recently surrounding criticism of Bridgegate. On past programs, Fallon quipped ”Christie was furious when they blocked the bridge because he thought they said they were blocking the fridge” and “Christie apologized and promised the bridge will stay open for cars, trucks, and the buses he’s throwing his staff under.”

Will on the Hill – Monday night was the annual “Will on the Hill” event for the Shakespeare Theatre Company. It’s an annual event that gathers politicians, journalists and other D.C. insiders to put on a performance that pairs elements of Williams Shakespeare with modern-day references.

According to their website, “proceeds from the event support STC’s many education, artistic and community outreach programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages.” One of the members of the cast was The Hill’s Managing Editor, Bob Cusack. Cusack tweeted this startling photo of himself moments before taking the stage. Turns out, acting is in Cusack’s blood. He tells FBDC, “It was my first time performing in Will on the Hill and brought back memories of when my parents had an off, off, off Broadway theater company in New York City. Last night I did Shakespeare, but back then it was Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk and Agatha Christie plays.” Aside from Jack, Cusack was an extra “Clear and Present Danger” and “Game Change.”
