Sen. Lincoln Snaps at HuffPost and AP Reporters

blanch.jpg Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) did not appear to be in the mood Tuesday to chat with two reporters about reconciliation.

HuffPost’s Ryan Grim and AP’s Erica Werner sought Lincoln, a conservative Democrat from Arkansas, in the Capitol and asked her about her stance on reconciliation. As reported by HuffPost’s Grim: “‘No!’ she shouted from the double doors leading to the Senate Democratic cloakroom. In an agitated tone, she then explained further: ‘I don’t support reconciliation. All I said was I want to see what’s in it.’”

Grim told FishbowlDC that Lincoln was “flabbergasted at the idea that there was any confusion, even though her comment was that she was open to looking at language.” Grim said he understood Lincoln’s sharp tone and wasn’t surprised by it. “She’s under a lot of pressure,” he said.

Read Werner’s story that originally questioned Lincoln’s position here.

Unlike Grim’s story, which reported Lincoln’s tone, Werner’s included an exclamation point and said Lincoln “walked quickly into a senator’s-only area without elaborating.”

Journos Race… And Not Just For a Good Story

Nearly 700 runners and walkers- including Roll Call‘s Beth Brotherton, ABC’s Jonathan Karl, AP’s Erica Werner, TWT‘s Jen Haberkorn and CBS’ Laura Strickler- came out for the 12th annual National Press Club’s race Saturday.

Funny enough, the race’s course went right by Freedom Plaza where tea party protestors were gathering Saturday. NPC runners joked about how much “free press” the protest was getting because of the 5K.

Of the DC media teams, E and E Publishing took first place, followed by Roll Call in second and McGraw-Hill in third. Teams from ABC News, Reuters, Army Times, Aviation Week and Hearst all also participated. And Roll Call‘s Jessica Brady was the race chair.

Rep. Jim Ryun (R-KS) handed out prizes– the silent auction in conjunction with the race is still going on here. That includes “big ticket items” like coffee with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour and an invitation to a taping of CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
