Fox News MediaBuzz Scores Its Highest Ratings Ever

On Sunday, Fox News’s MediaBuzz with Howie Kurtz scored its highest ratings ever recorded in it’s short history. According to Nielsen Media Research, some 1.3 million viewers tuned in to the show, which featured Fox Business Network’s Melissa Francis who claims that CNBC “silenced” her from being critical of Obamacare in her coverage for the network.

foxkurtzpost-mediabuzzAmong the 25 to 54-year-old demographic, MediaBuzz had nearly double the viewership of CNN and MSNBC combined for the 11A.M. ET hour, according to Neilsen.

The show launched last September and has since increased its viewership by 53 percent.

Fox News Scores Big Ratings with Bin Laden Shooter Special

Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 8.02.42 AM

Fox News’ first segment of “The Man Who Killed Usama Bin Laden,” which aired Tuesday night, was the network’s most-watched 10 p.m. slot of the year, excluding the State of the Union and midterm election coverage last Tuesday.

The segment features an exclusive interview with former Navy Seal Rob O’Neill, the man who claims to have made the fatal shot that killed Bin Laden and ended a nearly decade-long, international manhunt.

“I just walked in, saw him and shot him. Two shots very quick, the third shot–  he was laying on the floor,” O’Neill told Fox News’ Peter Doocy during the interview.

About 2.7 million people tuned in to watch the segment–with about 532,000 viewers in the 25-54-year-old demo, according to Nielsen Media Research. It easily scored the highest ratings of the night on Tuesday with almost twice as many viewers at that hour as MSNBC (561,000), CNN (513,000) and Headline News (398,000) combined.

WND Has a Survey They’d Like You To Answer

Every once in a while, we have to do things here at FishbowlDC that we’d really, really rather not, like reading this article at World News Daily. Article is a term we’re using loosely here, as it’s really a melange of video and pictures and opinions and song lyrics and prose sometimes so purple we had visions of the writer actually choking his words until their normal colors drained away.

It’s about some song some guy you never heard of wrote about his love for the female anchors on the Fox News Channel. Al Jazeera featured the video in a segment as it’s attracted quite a number of views on Youtube, and then posted the segment featuring the video to Youtube as well.

Then, Youtube’s automated—that, being the key word, automated—copyright enforcement mechanisms that it offers to large publishers took over and flagged the original video for review because the two songs matched. Neither WND nor the songwriter realize this, of course, and since WND never met a situation they can’t twist into an anti-Judeo-Christian-conservative conspiracy, we have this story.

That’s not even the best part.

WATCH: With 500 Shows Down, ‘The Five’ Looks Back

When it debuted almost two years ago, Fox News Channel’s “The Five” was billed as a temporary replacement for Glenn Beck‘s program. Today, the show celebrates its 500th episode and now ranks as FNC’s second most-watched program. Last month it had a 12-day hot streak as the #1 program in all of cable at 5pm. Last week, MediabistroTV spent some time with all 7 members of the “The Five.” In this first of two MediabistroTV videos Bob Beckel, Eric Bolling, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino, Andrea Tantaros and Juan Williams reflect on the best moments from the first 500.

Fox’s Roger Ailes Seizes the Moment

So you’ve been given a major award and you plan to graciously accept it with a speech about how you got where you are in life, the people who helped you along the way, how humbled you are to even have been nominated, etc., etc., etc. Well, you’re a fool.

Take a lesson from Fox New Chairman Roger Ailes, who knows exactly what award acceptance speeches are really for: shrewd attacks on political enemies, deft displays of one’s lack of self-awareness and boldly told, yet mostly discredited conspiracy theories.

Ailes was at the Kennedy Center last night to receive the Bradley Prize from the Bradley Foundation, a conservative group that honors those it thinks have most advanced its mission of limited government and free markets. After Ailes said he was donating the $250,000 that comes with the award to a charity for senior citizens, he got right down to business. Here’s the Cliff Notes version: American exceptionalism, immigrants, Benghazi, President Obama, election fraud (with poor people), immigration again, the IRS, healthcare, and some more American exceptionalism. Read on for a few choice selections:

What’s Dana Tweeting?

We’ve documented the twitter habits of Dana Perino, part of the quirky quintet that hosts “The Five” on Fox News several times before. Her tweets almost always fall into the category of self-congratulatory pronouncements or pictures of her hound, Jasper. If it’s not something along those lines, I get very concerned that something is wrong. Her Twitter feed is a steady diet of pics of Jasper in compromising positions. Viewers of “The Five” have even gotten into the act and they send Dana photoshops of the pooch like the one above. Honestly, Jasper looks like he’d fit right in with that pack on “The Five.” Hell, he might even have more intelligent things to say than Bob Beckel. She’s so obsessed with the dog, that when Mary Katherine Ham tweeted that she was going to be on Redeye, another show hosted by Perino’s frenemy, Greg Gutfeld, she told her, “bring up Jasper. He’ll love it. Double dog dare ya.”

She’s also known for just tweeting random thoughts. Read more

Marty’d: The Michelle Fields Edition

There are few things on the Internet that are as delightful as Marty Rudolf. The Twitter icon fishes for conversation with people from all walks of life, and every now and then, he gets a response. The more entertaining exchanges make it into our feature we like to call, “Marty’d.”

One recent example was when Marty asked Buzzfeed’s DC Bureau Chief, John Stanton, “Hello John, Describe what it’s like Being the DC Bureau Chief at Buzzfeed.com? I’m a Political News Junkie Online!” Stanton took the time to reply that it was “loads of fun,” even when he has to edit Evan McMorris-Santoro.

But it was a recent conversation with a Fishbowl Favorite that really caught our attention.  Read more

A Day in the Life of Dana Perino

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with Dana Perino, part of “The Five” on Fox News. These days, her twitter feed is nothing more than one long love letter to her pooch, Jasper. Even when she’s not tweeting about Jasper, she still finds a way to crowbar him in like she did earlier this week, when she tweeted, “Was asked today by a fellow dog owner at the park what I read. He was dead serious. So I told him the truth: tweets. Lots & lots of tweets.” Yes, Dana.  We get it. You love your dog.

That message has clearly been received by fans of “The Five,” because there is an account on Twitter devoted to making photoshops of the  hosts. One common subject that seems to come up over and over again is, you guessed it, JASPER! Just take a look at that cringeworthy “movie poster” for Lincoln starring Jasper Perino.

Oh, but it gets WAY worse.  Read more

Dana Perino’s Puppy Love Hits New Level

Did you know that Dana Perino has a dog named Jasper? If you didn’t know that, then you clearly aren’t following her on Twitter because that’s the ONLY thing she ever talks about. You would think that someone as well-rounded as Dana would have other things to talk about, besides her child dog, but apparently not.

In fact, on a recent episode of FNC’s The Five, Dana unveiled a love song she’d written to the pup. It’s sung to the tune of “Take it Easy” by The Eagles…  Sort of. You can feel Dana’s embarrassment as she tries to squeak a few lines of the odd tune dedicated to her hound.

Watch the video…  If you dare. Read more
