Boob Expert Shows up to Gutfeld Book Party

Walking into the Breitbart Embassy last night was sort of what one imagines walking into Michael Jackson‘s old home: Stationed in the living room was an ice cream stand with the Good Humor man. Outside was a petting zoo with ducks, bunnies, an alpaca and a tiny horse. And walking around the whole house was Nancy Leonard, an accordionist dressed in traditional Swiss clothing, who prides herself on being able to walk and play music at the same time.

“Do you know what the difference between an accordionist and an entertainer is?” Leonard asked FishbowlDC. “An entertainer can walk and play. Most accordionists have to sit and read the music.”

Leonard is a former breast implant specialist for the FDA. “I helped all kinds of people,” she said. “I helped men, women, transvestites… anybody.”

Also roaming around the zoo was former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.).

The Embassy was hosting a party for FNC The Five‘s Greg Gutfeld who has a book coming out next month. Gutfeld’s book, The Joy of Hate, is dedicated to the late Andrew Breitbart. It’s a commentary on the knee-jerk reaction people have to cry foul at anything and everything. Gutfeld said young and old people as well as “people that are not young or old” should read the book.

Party invitations inexplicably featured an old ’90s TV screenshot of Gutfeld from when he worked for Men’s Health. In the photograph, a buff Gutfeld is in a tank top and has a high-top haircut. “How dare you,” he said when we brought it up.

More Gutfeld and pictures…

French Maid Spices Up Daily Caller Book Party

What was initially thought to be a special appearance by David Martosko‘s personal secretary at last night’s Daily Caller book launch party ended up being nothing of the sort.

To the left is a photo of Nandi, who works with Emperor Vodka, which sponsored the soiree. “I’m just here for pictures,” she said, graciously posing for cameras. Nandi, whose arms are reminiscent of Angela Bassett‘s What’s Love Got to Do with It, said this was her first time working with Emperor. Fun first day on the job!

The Daily Caller hosted the party in its Farragut Square newsroom celebrating The Lizard King, an ebook written by their own Jamie Weinstein and Will Rahn.

“I have no good answer,” said Rahn when asked who should read his book. “It’s a transformative book,” he said (“transformational” also works). He compared it to reading the Bible. “Is this off the record?” Rahn asked at the conclusion of our interview.

Weinstein was a little more willing to talk about the book, though we get the impression he thought he was on TV. “Truth-seekers will like it,” Weinstein said. He emphasized that the book is actually a manuscript provided by a White House insider and that he and Rahn are simply the vessels through which the book is being delivered. “Once in a while, history falls upon you and I think it happened to us,” he said, adding that it “may be one of the most important books since [Fox News host] Sean Hannity’s book.”

The Daily Caller‘s bar was stocked with wine, soda, alcohol and a beer tap that poured Pabst Blue Ribbon. Edibles (vegetables and a few hors d’oeurves) were a little on the slim side.

As guests trickled in, a couple faces stood out in the crowd: Politico‘s Byron Tau and Tim Mak. The DC and Politico have been known to publicly quibble in the past. One Daily Caller staffer said the relationship between the two publications “on paper” is often not the case between individual reporters. He said there are several Politico employees he regularly drinks with. Both Tau and Mak chatted with The DC‘s Alex Pappas for a while, as well.

In the crowd we also spotted a distinguished gentleman with a badass eye patch. It turned out to be Will Rahn’s father, ex-husband to WSJ‘s Peggy Noonan.

The DC‘s editor Tucker Carlson was seen talking with RollCall‘s Jonathan Strong, a former Daily Caller reporter. Strong said work for him has been slow and “a little boring,” given he covers Congress, which is currently out of session.

Notables: The Daily Caller‘s Alex Treadway, Sarah Hoffman, Taylor Bigler, Jeff Poor, Caroline May, Brian Danza, Chris Bedford, Neil Munro, Pat McMahon, Nicole Roeberg, and Vince Coglianese; The Free Beacon‘s Adam Kredo and CJ Ciaramella; RollCall HOH‘s Neda Semani and Warren Rojas; Fox News contributor Jim Pinkerton; WaPo‘s Alexandra Petri; U.S. NewsSteven Nelson; The Daily Beast‘s Eli Lake; and Donald Rumsfeld‘s former chief of staff Keith Urbahn. Conspicuously absent were Matthew Boyle and Martosko, who had kid duty. We rode the elevator with him down to the garage. He puffed away on what may have been an illegal cigar the whole way down and said Rahn and Weinstein would know he was there “in spirit.”

Quotable:

  • “He’s a bit of a self promoter.”– Keith Urbahn on his former boss Donald Rumsfeld, who was Defense Secretary under former Prez George W. Bush. Urbahn spilled that Rummy is currently working on a new book. UPDATE: Urbahn writes in to tell us he was talking about his other former boss, The Daily Beast‘s David Frum.
  • Asked about former and recently fired Daily Caller reporter Michelle Fields, Daily Caller Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson said, “I haven’t seen her much on TV lately. That ended for some reason.” Fields was not in attendance.
  • “I don’t want to be written about.”– Steven Nelson, after FishbowlDC inquired about his job at U.S. News, which he only recently started.
  • “I’m holding out for the chance that Matthew Boyle shows up.”– FBDC’s Peter Ogburn.

Whose Shoes?

Late last night a FishbowlDC spy sent me this photograph of a journalist’s shoes from The Daily Caller‘s book party. The book is The Lizard King by Will Rahn and Jamie Weinstein. The shoes belong to neither author.

We’ll provide the hints. You guess the shoes. (Send to fishbowldc@mediabistro.com or to Betsy@mediabistro.com. We’ll do the big reveal later.)

Hint #1: He keeps all his receipts.

Hint #2: The town where he was raised has “Goose” in its name.

Hint #3: He does a mean Moonwalk.

Hint #4: When he first moved to D.C. in 2010, his car was stolen at the Branch Ave. Metro Station.

Hint #5: He is credited in the acknowledgement of Ann Coulter’s book, Demonic.

Hint #6: On rainy days he doesn’t like to venture outside.

Hint #7: He can scarf down enormous portions of nachos.

Quotes of the Day

“I wouldn’t expect anything else from a Daily Caller party.” — partygoer at The Daily Caller‘s book party last night for Will Rahn and Jamie Weinstein for their new eBook, The Lizard King. They hired this woman above on behalf of Emperor Vodka. Naturally she showed up in a French maid outfit. As you can see, the publication’s infamous White House Correspondent Neil Munro wastes no time in chatting her up. More on the party later…

“The great thing about life is that sometimes after you take the steps, then the path appears.” — TLC’s “What Not to Wear” host Stacy London at 6th & I Synagogue last night to discuss her new book, The Truth About Style. More on her talk later…

Confessional.

“Big Bird: My bed time is usually 7:45, but I was really tired yesterday and fell asleep at 7! Did I miss anything last night?” — Sesame Street.

Overheard…

“‘I filed an extension on my taxes. But it only went till October, so…’ — cocktail chatter at Daily Caller book release shindig.” — Roll Call HOH’s Warren Rojas.

Reporter gets real about kimchi

“After 7 painful years, I am throwing in the towel on pretending to like kimchi. I’ll never be cool enough to eat fermented cabbage.” — HuffPost politics reporter Laura Bassett.

Another food admission…

“Breaking: gluten free, dairy free pizza is the most depressing thing I’ve done.” — Roll Call HOH’s Neda Semnani.

Morning observation at the White House

“Just arrived at the White House. Didn’t see any below-8% dancing on the front lawn.” — Politico‘s Reid Epstein.

Anonymous journo to FBDC: “I helped launch MSNBC and I remember they got rid of Ann Coulter. Which was a shame because she had great legs.”

Daily Caller to Host Lizard Book Party

HarperCollins is releasing an E-book by two Daily Caller writers, Jamie Weinstein and Will Rahn, and the publication is helping them celebrate next week at their offices a hop, skip and jump from the White House. Rahn is the son of WSJ columnist Peggy Noonan. The book is The Lizard King, a political satire not written by an actual White House staffer as suggested below. We’re sure the White House is going to love this…The premise is that President Obama is born in the U.S., but the reason there is so much secrecy around that fact is because he’s actually part lizard.

Crashers may be picked on but they won’t likely be turned away.

Publicist Gobbles Garnish At Limbaugh Book Party

Conservative author David Limbaugh joined Regnery Publishing for a party last night celebrating his book The Great Destroyer‘s place on the NYT bestseller list for four weeks so far.

Limbaugh gave what can only be described as a passionate, if a little frantic and long-winded speech on just how bad he wants President Barack Obama to lose the election. Limbaugh said he’s been asked if he simply writes books to make money. “If I had to choose between having a successful book and Obama winning and having an unsuccessful book and Obama losing,” he said, “I’d choose the latter.”

After the speech the floor was opened for Q&A. Because no one piped up immediately, Limbaugh volunteered TWT‘s Emily Miller who he is obviously familiar with, to ask something. Miller, known for writing a series of columns on the trouble of legally obtaining a gun in D.C., asked, “What’s gonna happen to our guns if this man (Obama) is elected?” From nearby Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) chimed in, “Keep them loaded.”

Shortly after we spotted Miller’s colleague Kerry Picket whose left leg was all kinds of banged up. She told us the black and blue bruises around her shin and knee were caused from a mountain biking accident. “I supermanned over the handlebars” Picket told us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, though she seemed fine.

During dessert time we watched in amazement as D.C. publicist Janet Donovan skipped over the actual food and opted to eat the blackberry garnishes scattered around the platters. “Garnish is my favorite,” Donovan said, snatching up the for-decoration berries.

Notables: Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), The Washington Examiner‘s Paul Bedard, avid right-wing tweeter Kevin Eder, Townhall.com’s Derek Hunter and The Daily Caller‘s Alex Pappas, Michelle Fields, Matthew Boyle, Jamie Weinstein and Sarah Hofmann

Quotable: “Am I going to be in your story?”– Matthew Boyle through a mouthful of cake and beer.

Self-appointed media critic

Russia TV: The go-to network for hard-hitting Joe Williams’ Interviews

“Jesus Christ. Just watched three Euronews packages. Every damn one started with a wideshot of the EU flags. Is creativity that f*ing hard?!” — Russia TV Senior Producer Lucy Kafanov. Um, hey Russia TV, is asking Politico‘s Joe Williams a real, challenging question that f*ing hard?!

Better Left Unsaid

“YES! Got my tweet on #edshow! And got way too excited about it.” — Mediaite White House Correspondent Tommy Christopher.

Interesting co-byline this morning (wink! wink!): Daily Caller‘s Jamie Weinstein and Michelle Fields. Nothing like bonding over Jeremiah Wright.

Author Ed Klein: ‘It is Not I Who Has Changed’

Ed Klein, author of the book The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, was in Washington Tuesday to celebrate his book holding steadfast at No. 1 on the NYT bestsellers list for three weeks in a row.

FBDC met with Klein at a book signing at the Barnes & Noble in Union Station (the very one where Mother Jones’ David Corn blew his fuse). We inquired about criticism he has received from the left and right on his work as a journalist since being an editor at NYT Magazine back in the 1980s (a recent column in The Weekly Standard called Klein’s book “thin material”).

“I left the New York Times 25 years ago,” Klein said. “The New York Times at that point was a down-the-middle newspaper. Before that, I was at Newsweek which was also a down-the-middle-of-the-road magazine. Those two publications have lurched way over to the left since I left. So, it’s not I who have changed. It’s the publications who have changed.”

Klein’s handlers said about a dozen people showed up to get books signed.

Later in the evening, Regnery, Klein’s publisher, hosted a soirée for Klein at the uber masculine Morton’s. “I’d tell the men to take off their jackets but I know we’re all Republicans here,” Klein joked in his remarks.

The event attracted a crowed of about 50 people and was exceedingly drama free. It did, however, feature an open bar and shrimp cocktail hors d’oeurves so huge that they could choke a walrus. Delicious.

Notables: The Washington Examiner‘s Paul Bedard, Human Events Editor Cathy Taylor and The Daily Caller‘s Alex Pappas, Josh Peterson, Jamie Weinstein and Michelle Fields.

Quotable: “It’s in the freezer.”– The Daily Caller‘s Tech Editor Josh Peterson telling us the current location of a Bonsai tree he owns. We were just happy he wasn’t talking about a severed head.

Random Observation: A highly sociable Michelle Fields was spotted wearing her woodshop glasses. CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield she’s not, but the glasses are fast becoming her signature look.

Daily Caller Razzes Senate Flack

If you’re a Capitol Hill press secretary you may want to think long and hard before calling up The Daily Caller and giving them headline advice.

The headline in question: “McCain fingers Schumer as media whore for ‘grandstanding’ on Ariz. immigration law.”

Brian Fallon, spokesman to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), a well-known press whore who practically invented the phrase press whore, called up and asked, “Is whore really a word that The Daily Caller uses in a headline on its website?” Fallon had zero problem with their use of “fingers” as a verb.

So The Daily Caller did what many modern news organizations would do and turned Fallon into a puppet. The story’s byline is “Scoops Delacroix” a fake reporter’s name that has been passed around the office. At the moment it floats between Will Rahn and Jamie Weinstein but there may be others who have used it.

This is a must-watch.

Quotes of the DayTo the Right

Breaking bread with terrorists

“At an extravagant penthouse apartment in downtown Chicago, The Daily Caller dined with former terrorists Sunday night.” — The lede to The Daily Caller‘s Jamie Weinstein‘s story on Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson‘s dinner with former Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. The Daily Caller posse included Carlson, Weinstein, Big Journalism Founder Andrew Breitbart, a Daily Caller contest winner (a female who, so far, remains anonymous) Carlson’s brother, Buckley, and Weekly Standard senior writer Matt Labash. Read the story here. Carlson also went on WMAL’s “Morning Majority”: “At one point Bernadine compared the United States to Nazi Germany because of course she did! … I am appalled by them, but she is smooth,” he said. Best line: “I’m sure I somehow caught Syphilis from that dinner.” Listen to the full interview here.

A question posed to Breitbart online: “What’s your favorite name you’ve been called on Twitter?” He replied, “‘Fat Reich Wing Fascist Racist Faggot’ is synthesis of the online leftist argument against me. Variations on that theme.”

Loesch to Washington for CPAC

“Looking forward to #CPAC12. This year I vow not to return with the plague.” — CNN Contributor and Big Journalism Editor Dana Loesch.

Red State and CNN’s Erick Erickson goes on a Fox News bender: “I have a fair number of haters across parties. I’m fair and balanced in that regard. Heh.”

Bio of the Day — Stephen Hayes: “I am not the guy who writes for the Daily Standard. So please stop sending me tea party stuff. I follow a variety of issues mostly nuclear or missile related.” (As D.C. journos know, Stephen Hayes writes for that right wing mag more commonly known as The Weekly Standard.)

Scribe is disgusted by coffee

“I don’t drink coffee, never have. I’ve had most of 2 cups in my life, couldn’t finish them & sips of all sorts of doctored versions. #Gross” — Townhall columnist and radio host Derek Hunter. Explaining further, he adds, “Coffee is warm, dirty water that you can’t make taste good. No matter what you add to it, the underlying flavor is warm, dirty water.” On a completely different note, Politico media blogger Dylan Byers tweets a story he wrote on a “Pew survey finds more media bias.” To which Hunter cracks, “Must’ve read your shit.” (Sidenote: Byers was scheduled to go on the Bill Press radio program this morning. He showed up FINALLY, but was extremely tardy. Stay tuned…we’ll inquire and see if he has any decent excuses. UPDATE: Byers overslept. Seriously, VandeHarris let you get Zzzzz’s? UPDATE 2: He had an iced coffee in tow, which means he was late and actually STOPPED for it.)

If Mattera were judge…

“If what this teacher is accused of is true, then he should be hung from his balls.” — Human EventsJason Mattera in regards to the LA teacher who was accused of spoon-feeding his semen to blindfolded students.

A journo’s latest addiction: hot chocolate

“Ok, given the slow trickle of results I think I have a few minutes to get some hot chocolate at 7-11. My latest addiction.” — The Examiner‘s Philip Klein.
