Three weeks after moving into 529 9th St. in Chinatown, The New Republic officially celebrated its new office space on Friday.

“The convenience of the location played a big part,” Chief Operating Officer Sloan Eddleston told FishbowlDC. The office, which sits over the International Spy Museum, features a newsroom with some 30 computers, a library for reporters seeking a quiet respite and a spacious roof deck with a view of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery (another selling point).

Eddleston said the space was renovated before the TNR crew could move in and that changes to the office were paid for by the owners of the building. He said TNR has signed a multi-year lease, but declined to say how many years.

Notably, most of the computers in the office are desktop PCs with only two or three Macs. Asked if any of the staffers gripe over who uses which computer, TNR Editor-in-Chief Franklin Foer said no. Actually, most of the computers go unused. “I think you find that most people have laptops,” Foer said, “and they’re working off Macs.”

Foer said it’s “very sweet to be in a place that is our home and will be our home for a long time.” Previously, TNR was taking up shelter in an office sublet by the American Grain Council.

The party featured two fully-stocked open bars and another bar where attendees could sample different liquors. WaPo‘s media reporter Erik Wemple was spotted taking a shot of something dark before heading out onto the deck. Catering included copious amounts of humus and cheese, veggie spreads and an assortment of chips.

Have you noticed a recent surge of flora in your newsroom?  Are your fellow reporters collecting bouquets like business cards?  If so, there’s good reason.  But it’s not a slew of secret admirers like your floral-fied friends may want you to believe.

The real powers behind all the flowers are posh promoters Jayne Sandman and Barbara Martin of BrandLinkDC.  The dynamic duo has been wooing the Washington press corps with pockets full of posies to celebrate the District launch of their client, H. Bloom flower service.  Over the last few weeks more than 100 local VIPs and 50 reporters received arrangements like the one shown at left.  In return, recipients were asked to post photos of their flora on Facebook and were then gifted a second H. Bloom delivery.

This mystery journo was spotted sporting a papoose at the Washington Kastles season opener last night.  Although he’s been a “daddy” since the fall of 2009, he just discovered fatherhood when his vivacious wife, whose energy defies her surname, gave birth to the couple’s first child this year.  Can you guess the identity of this Snugli-clad scribe?

The Kalorama manse of lobbyist Juleanna Glover played host to The Week‘s first annual Academy Awards party last night.  Complete with Oscar-shaped cookies, popcorn and tuxedo-clad servers passing trays of Junior Mints, Milk Duds and Redvines, the event was a perfect balance of festive glitz and a casual night at the movies.

Last night, movers and shakers of all ages gathered at the Washington Club in Dupont Circle to toast Washington Life’s annual “Young and the Guest List.”

From the swanky digs and the guests’ stylish threads to the truly superb swag bags (co-sponsored by WL and Moki Media), the event’s “Return to Glamor” theme shined throughout the evening.

In addition to three generations of FishbowlDC – CBS’ Christine Delargy, Politico’s Patrick Gavin, Washingtonian’s Garrett Graff and me, luminaries from every facet of Washington attended the fab fete.

We spotted Top Chef Spike Mendelsohn chatting with White House Chef Sam Kass as well as reality stars Krista Johnson, Katherine Kennedy and Andy Baldwin. The Washington press corps was well-represented by folks such as Tammy Haddad, Angie Goff, Pamela Brown, Politico’s Jonathan Martin and Kiki Ryan, Examiner’s Nikki Schwab, CBS News’ Kaylee Hartung, Daily Caller’s Becca Glover, Amy Holmes, Makeda Sackey-Saggau, The Hill’s Jared Allen, Roll Call’s Jackie Kucinich and UrbanDaddy’s Jeff Dufour with wife, Jayne Sandman.

Capitol File Magazine’s Jason Binn, John Colabelli and Sarah Schaffer feted this issue’s cover star Anna Kournikova at Oya last night. The event brought out media types such as Politico‘s Kiki Ryan, WBJ‘s Jennifer Nycz-Conner, CBS News’ Christine Delargy, CNBC’s John Harwood, Examiner‘s Tara Palmeri, CNN Political Director Sam Feist and Michelle Jaconi, new EP for CNN’s John King, USA.

Fishbowl caught up with a very dolled-up Jaconi who told us that she and King are “thrilled by the feedback and support” they received from the launch of John King, USA.

“We received dozens of flower arrangements and gift baskets on the day the show premiered – many from competitive networks,” said Jaconi.

Last night was a big night for holiday parties – the Brunswick Group held court at L2, Scene Bisnow celebrated at Public Bar but the evening’s big ticket event was hosted by Quinn, Gillespie & Associates on the roof of the new W Hotel.

Complete with ice sculptures, a snow machine, a snow globe bar, DJ Chris Burns and a jazz quartet, the party drew big names from the political and media worlds, including Rep. Steny Hoyer and Fox News’ Brit Hume.

Clinton White House counsel and QGA Chairman Jack Quinn welcomed to his scenic bash, a glam bipartisan guest list — Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY) and Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) mingled with former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) and former Sen. John Warner (R-VA). And hostess with the most-ess Susanna Quinn dazzled in a gold cocktail dress.
