Journos Go Venga!

Lord, Gregory and Zimmerman

Dufour and Cherukuri

A menagerie of metrosexuals and the ladies who love them gathered at Fiola Wednesday evening for the launch of Winston Lord‘s new venture, Venga.  The company, co-founded by Sam von Pollaro,  is the creator of iPhone and Andriod apps that connect Washington D.C. consumers with exclusive offers, specials, happy hours, and music at restaurants, bars and lounges.  Out to show their support for Lord and Von Pollaro’s entrepreneurial efforts were NBC’s David Gregory, ABC’s Jonathan Karl, CNN’s Ed Henry, FNC’s Chris Wallace, UrbanDaddy’s Jeff Dufour, Huffington Post’s Peter Cherukuri, Tammy Haddad, man-about-town Mark Ein, and Politico’s Mike Allen.  Also spotted were Nats player Ryan Zimmerman and Mike Isabella from Top Chef.

Congrats to Winston!  For more information on Venga, visit govenga.com

Mr. UrbanDaddy Says Hello to Fatherhood

UrbanDaddy.com‘s Washington Editor Jeff Dufour has been busy welcoming his child into the world the past few days. In a Facebook update he writes that he “has never been this tired and this happy at the same time.”

Congratulations to Jeff and wife, Jayne. Welcome to the Fishbowl Owen! We hope you’re not going to do any of the racy things your father writes about until you’re way older.

The Week Hosts Academy Awards Bash

Mary Kathryn Covert, Glenn Ballard, Michael Steel, Brianna Keilar

The Kalorama manse of lobbyist Juleanna Glover played host to The Week‘s first annual Academy Awards party last night.  Complete with Oscar-shaped cookies, popcorn and tuxedo-clad servers passing trays of Junior Mints, Milk Duds and Redvines, the event was a perfect balance of festive glitz and a casual night at the movies.

Despite the all-star lineup of party hosts (Ron Bonjean, Tammy Haddad, Juleanna Glover and Karen Finney), the fete was not over-attended, offering around 100 guests a relaxed atmosphere to mix, mingle and eat their weight in miniature grilled cheese sandwiches* (see: me).  Spotted taking in the festivities were FD’s Mary Kathryn Covert and Michael Steel, CNN’s Brianna Keilar, Sam Dealey of Qorvis, Sarah Bonjean, Janet Donovan, NRSC’s Brian WalshLynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times, soon-to-be USA Today‘s Jackie Kucinich, Doug Heye, The Hill‘s Emily Goodin, Mark Paustenbach, Glenn Ballard, Pepper Watkins, Jay Newton-Small, Jeremy Bash of the CIA, Barbara Martin, Becca Glover Watkins, Kimball Stroud, Washington Life‘s Kevin Chaffee, WaPo‘s Jonathan Capehart, Daily Caller’s Megan Mulligan,  UrbanDaddy’s Jeff Dufour and an uber-preggers Jayne Sandman.

Are You On the Guest List? Find Out This Week.

Coverboy Andrew Noyes of Facebook, former National Journal reporter.

It’s that time of year when the city’s  youthful so-and-sos comb carefully through Washington Life‘s latest issue in hopes of spotting their names…Yes, it’s “Young & the Guest List” season and 2011 marks the fifth anniversary of the magazine’s annual list honoring 250 of Washington’s youngest power players with a little press bump, yearlong bragging rights and access to the magazine’s exclusive and lavish YGL fete.

Out on newsstands early next week, this year’s issue recognizes 150 business leaders, 53 White House and Capitol Hill staffers, 11 restaurateurs, seven athletes and three diplomats.   Thirty-five media types round out the group of movers and shakers.

“Media is sport in Washington and the young professionals playing on the press pitch each day serve an important role in defining the city’s DNA,” Washington Life‘s Michael Clements explained to FishbowlDC.  “We set out to strike a good balance between political, social and arts outlets as well as editorial, digital and business sides of the equation,” Clements added.

Journos who made the cut this year include WaPo‘s Ezra Klein, Roll Call‘s Jackie Kucinich, Politico‘s Patrick Gavin and Karin Tanabe, The Daily’s Jon Ward, The Hill‘s Christina Wilkie, Emily Miller from Human Events, NBC’s Norah O’Donnell, Examiner‘s Katy Adams, Urban Daddy’s Jeff Dufour and Washingtonian‘s Garrett Graff.

The full feature will go live on the Web this week.  Until then, check out the YGLs of yesteryear on WL‘s website.

Jayne and Jeff to Host Pre-Baby Booze Party

Jayne Sandman, Director of BrandLinkDC, which she runs with Barbara Martin, and husband, UrbanDaddy D.C. Editor Jeff Dufour, are hosting a alcohol-laden bash on Friday. Here’s why.

“Friends, we find ourselves facing a dilemma. In the midst of a conundrum. Standing at a crossroads. Which is another way of saying: Our house is full of liquor and we have to get rid of it to make room for diapers, cribs and tummy-time mats (whatever those are).  Please join us as we unstock our bar–a night of drunkenness with a purpose (by everyone but Jayne).  Think of it as your first charitable act of 2011. Friday, January 7, 2011 7pm until ?”

UrbanDaddy Holiday Party

WJLA’s Rebecca Cooper, Yeas & Nays Nikki Schwab and Katy Adams, HyperLocal’s Lee Brenner, HuffPo’s Peter Cherukuri, Washington Post’s Katherine Boyle and Fiona Zeblin, Express’ Sara Schwartz, Revamp’s Daniel Swartz, Pamela Sorensen, and Hot 99.5′s Samy K are just a few of the media types who joined Jeff Dufour for UrbanDaddy’s holiday party last night.  Held at AGAINN, the group was treated to specialty cocktails, small bites and a sampling of  Johnnie Walker’s entire collection of Scotch.  Party pics below.

Love is in the Journo Air: Frisky Whisky Edition

Blind item. Love was in the lusty air last night at a holiday party co-hosted by UrbanDaddy and Johnnie Walker at AGAINN.  Media types turned out to sip JW and toast the winter season but no one celebrated quite like two undisclosed media types – a newspaper gal and pr dude.  It’s unclear if the whisky made them frisky, but sources tell FishbowlDC that the pair spent a scant portion of the party standing under imaginary mistletoe.

Sure, blame it on the booze but we’re beginning to think that UrbanDaddy editor Jeff Dufour is a modern day cupid.  You might remember that it was at his party earlier this year that love blossomed between Politico’s Jonathan Martin and MTP’s Betsy Fischer.  Now who’s your daddy?

Daddy Dufour remarked to FishbowlDC: “UrbanDaddy always endorses people making new friends, and we’re happy to provide a forum (Scotch-induced or otherwise) for that to occur.”

UrbanDaddy to Become Real Daddy

Jeff Dufour, D.C.’s UrbanDaddy.com editor, and his wife, Jayne, are expecting.

The due date is in March. This is the couple’s first child.

“We’re very excited!” Dufour told FishbowlDC.

And now on a completely unrelated note… Dufour’s band, Walk of Shame, plays Thursday night at the Hard Rock Cafe. It’s the opening act for The Surreal McCoys – the band with entertainment lobbyist Erik Huey.

UrbanDaddy D.C. has the 411 on never getting misquoted again. It’s an online app called “My Phone Tap.” The tool allows you to record and save all calls. “Basically, this is like bugging your own phone,” reports UrbanDaddy.

D.C. Editor Jeff Dufour uses Politico and WSJ in hypothetical scenarios as to how and why someone would want to use this.

Check it out here.

Happy Birthday to the Urban Daddy

Let’s all join together in wishing Washington D.C. Urban Daddy editor Jeff Dufour a very happy birthday today.

We hope it’s a good one.

And how is Dufour spending the day? “I’m in New Orleans, then going to the Hangout Beach music festival in Gulf Shores, AL,” he wrote earlier today. “Hope I get there before the oil does.”
